Jehovah's Witnesses What would you do?

Jehovah's Witnesses

--I really need your answers! Any other opinions welcome but please be respectful.

If you knew someone who was dying and could only give them one thing--you had both a bible and a Society Tract in your hand--which would you hand them?

Why? would your answer be the same if another witness were with you?

Update:

Fair question,

I posed this question to Jehovah's Witnesses because among all those who name themselves as such, you are among the few who believe that your organization, alone, has God's approval and all others are evil. I have seen Jehovah's Witnesses, like you, who equate the watchtower society material with God's Word. You have confirmed this by turning to your watchtower examples to help you answer this question rather than examine your own heart and know what you would do based on the scriptures as your example, rather than a magazine.

By your question I see you have never read our tracks, they are designed to direct you to the Bible on the subject matter at hand. If I was talking to some one who has a terminal illness I would hand them a tract that directed them to the Bible and showed them about the resurrection hope, oh I could hand them a Bible and tell them to look it up themselves but they just probably don't have the time.

I have had those that were in that position thank me for their attention span on researching the Bible is at a minimum.

Your question implies that we put literature before the Holy Bible, this is an out lie spread by unbelieving trouble makers, "ALL" of our literature directs one to the Bible, what the trouble makers are unhappy about is we use the Bible to expose their false teachings and our literature shows those that are uneducated with Bible doctrine and once they know what the Bible really says they change to educated persons of the scriptural truth. Just like the Catholics didn't want the common person to be able to read the Bible and they killed those that tried to make the Bible were the common man could own one.

All of our literature directs one to the scriptures of a certain subject, I would give some one that was going to die a tract of how they could live forever after their being resurrected rather than the Bible by itself and tell them to look it up for themselves.

The tract would make it easy for them to find the scriptures that pertained to them without allot of unnecessary wasting of time.

Funny how you and others love to say that we are always using the Watchtower. When I answer these questions I use the Bible. I do not need to look things up because I know the scriptures. It is very unfortunate that you could not see the need to stay with it. Jehovah loves everyone and has given His Son Jesus to die for our sins. Jehovah's Witnesses, as I'm sure you must know, do everything they can to follow the example set out by Christ when on earth. Even to the point of not being politically involved. I'm sure you know this one:

Adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God. James 4:4

So, if you are on the large highway with everyone else, who side are you on? Only you can answer that. Oh, BTW, If I knew someone was dying, I would comfort someone with the scriptures and kind words and if I felt it was appropriate I may give them an article.

as a servant, (what we called them back then) I was on death watch at the home of an elderly witness who had no family and who was dying of breast cancer. knowing she had only hours to live, she asked for a cigarette. she had a pack of Camels and a book of matches hidden under her mattress. even though the witnesses had just taken a strong stand against tobacco products, I lit her a smoke, sat with her until she finished it, then rinsed the glass she had flicked the ashes into and flushed the butt down the toillet. she died before my relief came the next morning. what i gave her was comfort that could not be found in the bible or a pamphlet. at least i have never found it there.

I would hand the bible over, but a tract would be inside so that if they had enough strength or needed hope, they would not have far to look!

Every single one of our publications are promoting the bible. They are called study aids and I can tell you, that I am so grateful for they have helped me so much with understanding the bible and therefore helping others out.

I know that you are trying to trick us into believing that we hold our publications more sacred than the bible, but you cannot trick because it is just not so.

Your question does not make sense as everyone is dying in this system.

Jesus was the best teacher that lived and not everyone listened to him.

Do you think a small tract given a short time before death will create a favourable relationship for the person with God? (Hebrews 4:12)

Source(s): (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2) . . .For everything there is an appointed time, even a time for every affair under the heavens: 2 a time for birth and a time to die;. . .

The Bible. Do you ever read our literature? What is wrong with it? It teaches us to love Jehovah and our neighbors. Not to go to war and to be respectful to all people. It teaches us to love others no matter what race, religion or nationality. It helps us to guide our young ones so that they do not fall into the traps that children of the world follow such as drugs, pregnancy or imprisonment. It sites scriptures from several different translations of the Bible to show us what God thinks on the matter of family life and our every day life. Is any of this taught in other religions? No. Other religions just give sermons with little or no reference to the Bible and when they do reference the Bible it is not usually the truth of what the scriptures really mean. We speak door to door and most everyone says they read the Bible and that they are Christians. Then why is the world in the mess it is in? Read these verses and watch the news tonight.

(2 Timothy 3:1-7) 3 But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; and from these turn away. 6 For from these arise those men who slyly work their way into households and lead as their captives weak women loaded down with sins, led by various desires, 7 always learning and yet never able to come to an accurate knowledge of truth.

There is no other religion that is as united in their worship as we are. We can go anywhere in the world and fine other Jehovah's Witnesses and we all think the same and teach the same things. I could go to Spain and stay with other Jehovah's Witnesses that do not even know me. They could come here and stay with me also. If you go to other countries and knock on the door of someone in the same religion as you are do you think they would invite you in and let you stay with them? Our love for our brothers and sisters and our unity prove that we are the only true religion,

(Isaiah 43:10-12) 10 “YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. 11 I—I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.” 12 “I myself have told forth and have saved and have caused [it] to be heard, when there was among YOU no strange [god]. So YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I am God.

(Acts 15:14) 14 Sym′e‧on has related thoroughly how God for the first time turned his attention to the nations to take out of them a people for his name.

Such an odd question. Why is this question posed exclusively to JW's?

2 Corinthians 1:3, 4 says, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted by God."

What comfort would members of your religion bring to a dying person? What Scripture would you share with them to strengthen their faith in God? The basis of the reply of each JW is found in the above Scripture. God has given them comfort in turn they share this same comfort based on His Word with others.

The May 1, 2008 Watchtower included the helpful article "Comforting The Terminally Ill". Among the many practicaly suggestions provided I appreciated this one most: “Comfort comes not only from our words but also from our attitude. Pulling up a chair and sitting down, drawing near and offering our hand, not holding back our tears when they reveal what they are feeling—all of this shows that we care.”

What about comforting those to whom we are not well acquainted. Consider what two JW's in Australia did: While working from door to door, two sisters met a woman who was ill. She told them that she had terminal cancer and that she was busy packing things away so that others would not have to worry about the things when she died. The woman said that she had no family and no friends and that life was extremely lonely. She further explained that she had had disturbing experiences with other religions and felt that God had abandoned her. Later, one of the sisters took her a bunch of flowers, and because the woman had gone out, the sister left them at her door with a little note. That afternoon the woman phoned to express her deep appreciation for the kind gesture. She said that no one had ever shown such kindness or given her flowers before, and she apologized for not being at home. When the sisters called again, she was waiting for them.

A strong love of God and neighbor guides the activities of JW's. Should it not be the same among all professed Christians?

If they were dying a Bible or a tract wouldn't be of any help to them.Probably what would be better would be saying a prayer for them. Also reading outloud to them from the Bible would be a good thing to do. I have done this many times. Thanks to Jehovah.

That's easy, the Bible. It is God's Word after all.
