Is poison Ivy contagious?

My sister says that poison Ivy is contagious and can be passed from person to person. Her Grandson has it and her other Granddaughter is pregnant and she says the holiday will be spoiled cause the Grandson cannot be around the pregnant one. I say this not true. I searched the web but would like input from the answers community. Thank you

The substance in poison ivy that produces the rash is a compound called Urushiol, which is found covering the leaves and in the sap of the poison ivy plant. If you get this substance on you you can transfer it to other people by touching them. The skin rash will form anywhere that is touched by Urushiol. It can easily be washed off with soap and water before the rash can develop. Once the person has washed away the contamination they are perfectly safe to interact with other people..
