Should we blame it on the Judge?

Was it the introduction of the Taurus Judge that corrupted people's brains into thinking that all .410 shotguns should also be able to fire .45 LC? Or does the concept go way back?

Update:

LOL! Y!A suggested the Marriage and Divorce category for this one!

Not exactly, since it wasn't the first handgun to allow the combination. But it was advertised more than its predecessors.

At the same time, keep in mind that stupidity has never exactly been in short supply.

There were a lot of people who thought that a .45 Colt could be fired from a .410 long before the Judge. American Derringer made a derringer that would shoot both. 3" .410 no less. While a .410 can be fired from a .45 Colt, the reverse is not true, as a .45 will not chamber in a .410. That is why you will always see the caliber designated .45/.410 and not the other way around.

I don`t think the Taurus Judge is guilty because the concept of firing a .410 out of a .45 has been around as long as I can remember. I have never tried it... nor have seen it done. I once carried a .45 lc in the 60`s and was told by others that it could be done, but was never curious enough to try it.

Source(s): Ps It was an Italian made double barrel derringer.

    It goes way back.

25+ years ago I had a Contender Pistol with the 45LC/410 barrel that came with a set of chokes for using the 410 shells. The barrel was engraved 45 Long Colt/410 Shotgun.

It sure seems like in general since the Judge showed it's face everyone was suddenly interested in the .410 - .45 LC combo. Personally, I don't understand the point of the .410 in a pistol, but to each his own right?

it goes way back, in the past if a farmer needed to put down a larger animal humanely, he'd load a .45 colt light load into a .410 and shoot the animal, it has not been determined if this would be safe.

    Yes.

  • I'd vote for that indictment.
