Labia laceration after giving birth?

I had my 2nd child on Dec. 1st (about 3 weeks ago). With my 1st, the labor was slow, and I barely tore and only needed 2 tiny stitches. This time, I got to the hospital and delivered so fast I had no time for pain meds or anything and my baby was born in like 3 pushes which took like 1 minute. So, my midwife informed me I had a left labia laceration (no idea what degree). She said instead of having 2 labias it appeared as though I had 3 from the tear. They stitched it which hurt so bad as I could feel the needle at times. It has been almost 3 weeks, no sign of infection and the stitches have began to come out I believe. From what I can tell, it's still a lil swollen and tender.

I think I am going to be terrified the first time my husband and I resume having sex, and am concerned about how this will heal. So I was hoping anyone who may have had a similar eperience can tell me how they healed, and how everything went. Thanks.

I had 2nd degree tears with both of mine- this means the skin and muscle of the perineum and vaginal walls were affected. Even with this amount of trauma sex has been fine. The key is to make sure you're 100% comfortable down there first, and to use a lot of lubrication. Also ask your husband to go very slowly and he must be prepared to stop asap if you ask him to.

Remember also there are loads of ways of being intimate without penetration, so if you feel more comfortable making love without actual intercourse for a couple of months then this is also fine. But try not to be tense the first time to do attemp intercourse as this can cause your vaginal muscles to tense, which can make it painful.

I had a labial tear with #2 (perennial tear with #1) although I didn't have stitches. Intercourse was uncomfortable at first but everything was back to normal by the time I went for my 6 week check. I think you'll be fine. Its completely natural tat you're nervous! Just go very slowly the first few times. x

No it shouldn't- just be nice to your self and take it easy. Keep doing those kegals. You know squeeze and hold, squeeze and hold. Do you like herbs? If you can get to an herbal store buy some comfrey, make a tea- let the water cool a bit. Soak the tea in a clean wash cloth and place it on yourself- on your you know. It heals and soothes and helps elasticity. Good luck and be gentle with yourself. You'll heal fine. It's normal. I tore at the "top", thought I was ruined. But it was just fine. K

i had tears with both deliveries, however they were minimum and it heals a lot faster then we think, 3wks postpartum i did resume intercourse and had a little sensitivity there. my friend who had a bigger laceration, waited 6wks, she was swollen as well, she did check it out down there, often and said it was healing a lot faster then she thaught. trust me we heal pretty fast, but you will have a little sensitiveness to that area, but do promise you will look put together down there again.
