Bumming a cig........?

Am I the only person who thinks that bumming a cigarette from someone is extremely rude? I can understand if it's someone that you know (even then if it's too often it's really annoying) but a total stranger? Sometimes I'll get multiple strangers asking me at the same thing. They're ******* expensive. Am I the only one who gets annoyed with this?

You're the only one. We smokers are a dying breed (no pun intended), and we bond over a shared smoke. If you're gonna complain about the cost, you shouldn't be smoking!

I think it's fine. Bumming a cigarette is one of the unique courtesies that smokers can share with one another that non-smokers do not get to experience. I have bummed cigarettes, and given away plenty as well. As I see it, giving a cigarette to a stranger is a small price to be rewarded with gratitude, conversation, and a new acquaintance. Even if its someone I'll never see again, they are generally more than happy to share a story, and I can tell that the favor is genuinely appreciated. It costs me literally no time or effort, and I'm out maybe 25-30 cents. I know that when I ask someone for a cigarette, I want one badly, and I'm generally very polite and apologetic about the imposition.

What does drive me crazy are people who smoke, but rely entirely on other people's supply to keep their habit up. If you happen to be broke or you ran out recently, that's fine, but if you bum 100% of your cigarettes from other people, that's just cheap, lazy, and thoughtless. When I borrow from someone I know, I always try to repay the favor, even if they're not out of cigarettes. Occasional bumming from strangers is generally accepted, I think, and I find that I borrow and give about the same amount.

Yeah you may be the only one. I used to smoke regularly and I know how expensive they are and I would not hesitate to give some one a cig and a light. Everyone bums once and a while and it's a whole smoker's karma thing. Every smoker knows how bad it feels to want/need a cig and not have one. Stop being stingy and share most smokers will do the same and not think twice.

I believe in cigarette karma; if I supply someone with a cig then I hope that someone else (not necessarily the same person who bummed one from me) in the the future will not hesitate to give me one. However, if I've given out more than a few in one day or if my pack is low, I don't feel bad about holding on to my inventory.

This does not apply to a person who never buys their own pack and strictly smokes bummed cigarettes, that's just bad form.

I don't smoke, but considering how expensive cigarettes are these days, yeah it is rude, especially if it's a total stranger! If I smoked, I would be very annoyed with people doing that.

Bumming a cig means you're going to actually smoke it. STOP! There is so much info we're getting that assures us that smoking is so dangerous that it will most certainly kill those who use it. It's not a myth: it WILL kill you. It's interesting that cigs are the only thing that, if used exactly as stated by the manufacturer, will definitely give you one of various life threatening diseases that will kill you as a result.

I don't mean to spoil your fun but maybe you could find another way to look cool.

No, find it the same. Gone are the days when you could do it because they were cheap, but they are too expensive to give away to strangers.
