Turkey neck question ... HELP ASAP ?!?

This is my first year making Christmas dinner and I'm kind of clueless . I made a turkey yesterday but my boyfriend was here to pull out the giblets and neck . He's not here right now, he's gone on a coffee run .

My question is - Is there a problem with cooking the neck in ? That might be a stupid question, but I've never cooked a turkey before in my life, and I just pulled out the giblets and just about vomited . I can't imagine pulling the neck out . So, safe or not ? There will be two young children eating this turkey also .

The neck and giblets are added so they can be used to make gravy. The neck is all bones (little meat) so people usually use it to flavor gravy or soup. Check to make sure anything left inside is not wrapped in plastic or any other wrapper. If it is not, there is no harm leaving it in. The liver if left in will make the juices bitter and cloudy. I would suggest you just close your eyes and reach in to yank it out. No biggie.

I personally boil the turkey giblets in water which has been salted and to which various spices and vegetables have been added. Then the broth and giblets are used in the dressing and/or to make a gravy. However, there are other methods for cooking giblets. Just google 'how to cook turkey giblets'. Then select the method which seems most suited to your taste, and to the time you have to prepare your meal.

Normally the giblets, neck and other organs are generally cooked up and used to make gravy.

It would be better to take the neck out (I usually put it in the bottom of the pan to roast and help flavour the gravy).

Are you putting stuffing inside the turkey? If you are, then you need to take the neck out to make room for the stuffing.

If you aren't stuffing it then it is ok to leave the neck in if you feel like you can't remove it.
