How can I train my dog to stop barking for me when I leave a room or the house?
I have a Black Labrador/Golden retriever mix that I got from a neighbor. I love him to death but he seems to have severe separation anxiety when I leave a room that he is in or his crate or when I leave the house. I have tried everything from peanut butter frozen in a Kong toy to benedryl and nothing has worked and it drives me nuts.
What can I do to curb this problem behavior? I want positive re-enforcement or anything that Cesar Milan teaches if possible.
Thank you in advance for the tips.

when a dog misbehaves, make a sharp "tsk!" sound. if theres a leash or collar on, tug at it to get the dog's attention. what you can do is get a friend to leave and come in; every time your dog barks at your friend, tug at its collar and make the "tsk!" sound. if he obeys, treat him to a small piece of chicken or anything your dog doesn't get often. if your dog doesn't bark when your friend leaves, get your friend to do the correcting, or a relative if you don't trust them. this should work if you do it several times. if its a puppy, spend as much time as you have to correct anything wrong that it may do.
here are some other tips:
-when walking your dog, hold the leash close to your dog, so its by your side at all times. this helps a lot if your dog sees a car, a cat, a bird, another dog, or whatever.
-when training your dog to do a trick, don't overwhelm him with multiple tricks; focus on one trick, and reward your dog. make sure you repeat the procedure and the command over and over again so your dog can make the mental connection.
-the "tsk!" sound always works. mostly an attention grabber, but if you use this and give your dog a little smack, they would soon associate that its a bad thing. correct any bad behavior with this.
-don't be afraid to smack your dog a little. you won't kill it for pete's sake.
-exercise your dog a lot. make sure you take it out at least once a day, and more if you can manage.
uh, thats all the things i can think of right now.
and your welcome in advance :)
happy training ^^

1. exercise, exercise, exercise both physical and mental.
2. start pairing your departure with a very high value treat (breakfast?)
3. Don't make an event of leaving and don't project it.
4. Initially go out then come right back in. Train the dog to sit, go around the corer for 30 seconds come back, release and reward. Then 60 seconds, then 2 minutes. THEN do the same thing but going outside. Once you've paired your departure with something positive, the dog will remain quiet for a while. THEN you can start rewarding for the wanted behavior. Make sure there are plenty of mental stimulation toys, feeder balls and puzzle toys out.
This is a lot of work but will change the behavior, not just stop the barking. I assume you'd rather have the dog *feel* calm than just stop barking. Bark collars and other anti-bark devices can and do work but if the dog is having anxiety, they will just find some other way of releasing that anxiety that doesn't set off the device like destroying your sofa, shoes.... carpet.....

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMroS
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Well if it is separation anxiety there's not much you can do about it I know a dog who has it too and he can't do much about it...
