Should the NFL change the current playoff format? (**New idea**)?
Since the 7-9 Seahawks SOMEHOW got into the playoffs, I thought what if the NFL changed the seedings NBA style. We'd still have our divisions and teams would still play each division opponent twice but now the seedings could still be by "conference" or in this case "AFC" and NFC." They'd have seedings go 1 through 6, so in this case the best teams get in and the not so great don't get in. Do you think this is a good idea for the NFL to consider? Having it go NBA style?
It'd look something like this IF IT WERE NBA STYLE.
AFC NFC
1. Patriots 1. Falcons
2. Steelers 2. Bears
3. Ravens 3. Saints
4. Jets 4. Packers
5. Colts 5. Eagles
6. Chiefs 6. Bucs/Giants
Not much changed, but at least the lowly Seahawks are out. This would make sure the best teams get in. Thoughts?

It's a sad day in the NFL.
A team with a "Losing" record not only qualifies for the playoffs but they will host a playoff came as "Champions" of a division.
When a team goes 9-7 they are still a "Winner" because they won more than they lost.
8-8, has made the playoffs before but at least they are .500, breaking even.
For a 7-9 team to win a division and make the playoffs is really pathetic.
They are officially "Losers" because they have lost more than they have won.
The NFL has to do something about this in the off season.
They need to make it so any team, even if they win their division on a tie breaker, if they have a losing record they could receive their hats and trophy but a team with a winning record from another division should be allowed in the post season as a conditional wild card for that season.
I have always been in favor of the way the playoff qualifications were set up.
Even if a 9-7 team made it when a 11-5 team didn't.
My attitude was that a two game difference wasn't that significant because most 11-5 teams could have easily been 9-7 and most 9-7 teams could have easily been 11-5.
I guess one could assume that even the 7-9 Hawks could have easily been at least 9-7 but I think the official losing record out weighs that hypothetical rationale.
There are two 10-6 teams in the NFC tonight who will not be playing next week and a 7-9 team will.
Add to that there is a 12-4 team in the AFC who is a Wild Card and will be on the road next week and a 7-9 team who will be at home.
Something needs to change.

The problem with your argument is that the NBA is divided into divisions as the NFL is. Unlike the NFL, the NBA Eastern conference has been sending teams to the playoffs with losing records for the past five years. In fact, last season three NBA teams from the Eastern conference went to the playoffs with losing records. The Seattle Seahawks are the first NFL team in to go to the playoffs with a losing record.
The NFL playoff seedings are fine. It just that it was an anomaly that a losing team for once made it to the NFL post season.

Anyone who thinks the playoff format shouldn't be re-adjusted must be a Seahawk's fan. Not just the NFL, but all sports need to scrap the division seeding BS. Seed them how they finish as per record in each respective conference. Leagues in North America only have divisions cause money is saved on travel.

Your bright idea is inaccurate.
The NBA style is not this.
The NBA has 2 NBA Conferences:
Eastern and Western
Each Conference is broken down into 3 divisions
Eastern Divisions are
Atlantic, Central, Southeast
Western Divisions are
Pacific, Northwest, Southwest
Get a little education before you go coming up with bright ideas.
Very similar played as to how the NFL does it, with the exception of 5 series games or best of 7 games.
Happy New Year!

Nope. Horrible idea (and I hate all 4 teams in NFC west). Don't blame the Seahawks because the G-men and Bucs couldn't win their divisions.

What's the point of the divisions then. NBA's sucks. It always has teams with losing records in its playoff.
