I need help with my new doggy?
We just adopted a 2 year old, female, wire hair mix from the pound.... she is perfectly trained in all ways except one.
When we take her on walks she freaks out at all other dogs & is barely leashed trained.
Right now we kind of live in a small place but in a year or so we wanted to get a place with a large yard & then get a puppy, but we worry with her current attitude towards other dogs if that will even be possible.
She is great with kids & cats but totally goes ballistic when she sees other dogs of any size.
So is there any way to teach my old dog new tricks? Can we train her to get along with other dogs?

You absolutely can. Chances are her reaction stems from either being under socialized or from having been attacked by another dog.
Introducing her to other dogs, on an individual basis, letting their owners know your dog's propensity to "flip" is best. If she has a tendency to snap or bite, you might try getting her a muzzle for the first few introductions and then, slowly, as she gets used to other dogs and has positive experiences, you will probably be able to wean her off the muzzle.
My female rottie from the pound had been chained in a backyard for a year and had no experience with dogs except through the fence and she would just get overexcited when she saw other dogs and didn't know how to greet them properly. I took her to obedience classes and agility and after 6 weeks it was like having an all new dog. She gets along with all dogs, is very gentle and is a hit at the dog park! I would strongly suggest taking your dog to an obedience class, I bet you will find it helps a bunch!

good for you adopting from a shelter! all i can really say is that it will take time and patience. slowly socialize her by having a friend bring over there dogs for play dates...best if it is at your house where she is comfortable. she will ease in.. give her treats on walks something special like turkey dogs or cheese so that she knows she is getting something good when she goes out. The fact that you want a puppy in a year is great there is no better way for her to get used to another dog especially when its a puppy. do some research online dont stress this is no problem just takes time :) good luck

she needs socialization.....with other dogs.
Will she actually attack other dogs or is she just verbal. If she won't attack other dogs that I suggest you take her around other dogs, and people a lot. Try first on the leash and the if she behaves later you can take her off a leash at a dog park or something.
I hope someone can give you some good advice on the type of training you will need for this dog.

Hey , I see that you need some sort of guide that will give you tips and tricks to help your dog become fully trained and more healthy. Recently one of my friends really needed some advice on how to train his dog, he followed the dog training academy course to successfully have a full trained dog in a few weeks.

If she is dog aggressive you may be able to (with professional help) teach her to ignore or tolerate other dogs on walks or in the park but it would be at serious risk to bring a puppy or dog into your home. You need her to be evaluated for her level of dog aggression way before you even think about another dog or puppy. Canine behaviorist.

Consult or hire a good dog trainer, and work on socializing the dog with other dogs. That, along with a lot of love and a little patience should be all the dog needs.

yes, your dog can learn to tolerate and accept other dogs. You should take her to a group training class, so that she can see other dogs - especially the same dogs in class from week to week - so that she begins to understand that the other dogs are not a threat.
Your dog may or may not come to love ALL other dogs, but as in our case, we rescued an adult pit who was highly dog aggressive. Turns out she loves to play only with neutered male dogs that are older than her and about half her size! So we foster for the local shelter; she picks out the new foster and she learns to like another dog.
Don't wait though - start her rehab now.

I heard that there are animals in Heaven. So I quite believe there are. It does say within the bible that the lamb will lye down with the lion. (no , I doubt that that implies intercourse among lions with lambs. LOL XD ) So its now not a ways fetched ( get it fetched lol ) that there are puppies and cats in Heaven. (((((((Erin))))))) now so far as HELL........ Are you certain you desire me to supply you an entire description of whats in HELL???
