How can I become an early riser? I can never get to sleep, and my schedule's really screwed up?
I go to bed at like, 5 or 6 am, & wake up around like 2 or 3. I hate it. I want to start going to bed at like 10, I'd settle for 11 or 12 & getting up at 9 or 10. I've tried to go bed at 10, but I just lay there in the dark for hours. It's frustrating.

Option 1) Become a parent. A single parent if possible (not that I advocate this on the child's behalf!). I did this and started going to sleep by 8pm and waking @ 5:30am. By the time I went to bed I didn't care it was 'early'... I was so tired! And when I woke up I already had a diaper to change (or it would mean a wet bed/pj's/etc), a cat now needing fed after being woke by the baby, and I needed to go to the bathroom myself. After doing all these things I was quickly awake and 2 weeks of this was all it took. Now I like waking so early. Love it actually.
Option 2) Set the time you want to go to bed and plan to eat dinner an hour earlier than you normally would. One hour before you are going to bed do a routine like shower/teeth/washface/change out of day clothes. Then sit in bed with the dimmest light possible and read. Read something boring, preferrably. Make sure you aren't sipping any liquids and don't drink any for that last hour especially.
Option 3) Watch C-SPAN on tv and set your tv to auto-turn off after 30 minutes, at which time you will also have fallen asleep.
Option 4) Have someone sleep in your bed who tells good, rambly, made-up bedtime stories. Their job is to tell the story in a soft, monotone voice with no laughing or strong emotional voice inflection.
Option 5) Get drunk. Then eat a LOT of mashed potatoes or macaroni and cheese. This makes ME sleepy.
Option 6) Go to the gym 3 hours before you want to be asleep, work out for 2 hours with cardio and weights. Seriously sweat. Seriously stretch. Seriously push yourself. Then come home, shower & do bed routine. Use a lavendar scented oil or lotion (even if you're a guy... its ok you won't smell feminine by morning) which will stimulate you to sleep.
Option 7) Turkey. Triptophan. Eat it. Then sleep. Preferably not on the couch with your pants unbuttoned so you can make room for pumpkin pie.
Good luck!
