    There was a time when a large population of people worshipped cows. Some people still do even now in the Hindu religion

    "Holy cow!" . . . Equiv. to "Holy cats!" both being euphemisms for "Holy Christ!"

    I wasn't sure where that came from but I had this idea of a cow with holes in it and someone coming across it and saying "Holy cow!!" Or maybe Robin from Batman said it...
