why does my cat lose fur in winter?

she is 3 years old each year she loses weight and fur in winter, but has a really nice coat and good weight in summer, shouldn't it be the other way round?

Here you can find a good article on feline shedding:

From my experience and from what my vet told me, all cats shed both in summer and in winter. It is perfectly normal. In summer, they shed the light coat to prepare for winter. In winter, they start shedding the thick coat to prepare for summer. The fact that she looses weight could be associated with the hair. In winter, she has more hair to shed and obviously she will swallow more hair. This builds up in her intestines and kills her appetite. You have to be very thorough and brush her daily.

For some, hair loss in accepted as just another one of those things that occurs with age. For others, it can come as a big knock to their self-confidence.

Since the air is dry, probably the fur comes off

Yeah... I'm pretty sure its the other way around.

It could be a skin condition related to the cooler, drier air. Does anything change contained by the wintertime like he doesn't go out anymore or something? If the vet has ruled out any medical issues it sounds approaching stress from something.

Some pets lose their fur in the winter due to seasonal allergies - others because of the type of heat you use surrounded by your home. Many pets will sleep next to or on top of a radiator vent because they like the warm air that flows out of it and that can head to hair loss.

Yes. Your cat is doing things wrong. Try yelling at it to correct his problem.
