Is God cheerful about being called by different names?
Some folks like to argue about God's "true" name is, but I wonder, isn't it more likely that people can call Him anything they wish, imagine Him in any form they like, and He still reads their hearts' intent?
If I called Him Thor, but tried my best to be an excellent, compassion human being and to do good in the world, wouldn't He overlook my terminology, and cheerfully accept my spirit of kindness?

After meditating on scriptures on this issue of Almighty God's correct name - I conclude that God would prefer not to have a name. In Jewish thinking and culture a significant name, that said something about the child, was given to infants. (loads of Bible examples) When something worth noting happened to someone, his name was changed, this also happened in New T. times, notable examples were when Jesus renamed Simon to Peter. St Paul was previously Saul. In Western culture this significance of one's name has been lost - my name has a lovely meaning but I doubt that it was chosen for this.
At the beginning God refered to himself as I AM but obviously his followers could not easily refer to him with what seems to be just a phrase!
To CONFIRM the above - my husband had a Conversion Vision, with a similar impact to that of St Paul's Conversion vision - God spoke audibly and gave hubby a task - God started speaking saying -
"I AM says for you to bless Jim . . .(the form and face of this person was shown)"
Hubby Geoff was confused about this, for as a non-Christian he had no Bible knowledge, until I explained that God had originally addressed himself by this ancient phrase. So, in a manner of speaking, we have had what I have written above, straight from the horse's mouth!
You cannot encapsulate the character or substance of God in any one name - it even strikes me as being like an offence or a sick joke, even to attempt it - therefore I believe that God would prefer no restricting influence of a name, but I would dare to suggest for practical reasons the name Jehovah or Yahweh was given - if today we have got the spelling wrong, I think that God does not care a hoot or tin-whistle - it is how we humans relate to him that matters; the language of the heart is universal and beyond mere words, God listens to and notes, the yearnings and aspirations of our hearts - that being a huge subject!
I refer to God as Father or Lord - These made through my High Priest - Jesus Christ. I reckon he is sufficiently pleased with the genuine prayers of my heart!

I believe at some point What Is demands the recognition of What Is before It reveals It's True Nature. That must include the accuracy of the vibration/word that is the initial formation of Itself in Creation. If the rate of vibration dictates the manifestation of Spirit as it appears to be then it does matter what the level of understanding is and as we discover more and more accurately the nature of Reality we will call It by ever more accurate words until the most subtle of words are sounded and then, in the Infinite beyond all movement, all manifestation, we discover the unfathomable beyond Creation.

Sara, God is a Title not a name. NO one actually KNOWS God(dess)'s name so you could call him/her Charlie and it would be just as wrong and Jehovah or Allah or any of the thousand and one names that the God(dess) has come be known by. God(dess) doesn't really CARE what you call him/her/it only THAT you call. Now, all these other folks who are screaming about Thor being a Pagan God and it being an insult to call God that name have NO idea what they are talking about. these folks are the ones who tend to believe that God is his name, it is not. They also tend to believe that YHWH is his name, it is not. At NO point anywhere in the Bible does God reveal his name and says that YHWH is the closest that one MIGHT get to it but that in no way truly identifies it. So folks who get upset about WHAT he is called are totally misguided. The important thing is THAT he is called and as long as you ascribe the qualities of a God to that name and address that being in complete respect and reverence then the name is unimportant. The Gender is unimportant, The Species is unimportant. Everything else is unimportant.

God is the one making the fuss about his name, he knows what his name is and he desire to be called by it.
If you don't know what it is, then it's not held against you, if you love him as much as it pass through the lips, why wouldn't you want to know his name and call him by it ?
Why call him a name he's not ?
Besides, he's the one to say :
Exodus 20:7
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Exodus 23:13
And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.
Now if for a long time you finally find out the name you had was wrong, why would you want to continue going wrong ?
Why would you continue in someones else error who may have mislead you ?
Then, once you know better, now are you responsible, now you are without excuse, now are you guiltless.
It's not a big deal, straighten up, start calling him the right thing, but don't make two mistakes, this time make sure you get it right.
If you claim he answers prayers and you believe he'll answer you, don't you think he knows what his name is or is not or whether he feels he should or should not be call by it ?
If it be true that he have kept you this far, even when you may have not known him by his real name, do you think he will quit on you now for calling him by his real name if you come to know it ?
You will be in more trouble knowing and not obeying than not knowing at all. And even more when the opportunity was presented and you reject it:
Proverbs 1:22
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
Is he not the same God then as he is now or now as he was then?
Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Isaiah 52:6
Therefore my people shall know my name:
Are you his people ? do you know his name ? When we try to twist and make God agree with our way, then we bump heads with the foundation laid before us and we are found guilty before him.

Thor was an idol false god and I think God would start correcting you and lead you to the right names if your heart is sincerely seeking Him.

It sounds like bony m, singing rivers of babylon.
"May the words of our songs and the dedications in our hearts be acceptable in thigh sight here oh lord!
God is broad minded.

God's not cheerful about anything. In any of religious writings, is there actually humour? I mean real humour, not "Ha ha! Look at all those cities we burnt to the ground" or "Ha ha! Y'all are gonna burn!"

The Divine Entity doesn't care what you call it. As long as you in your heart of hearts know that your love and worship are for the Divine Entity, it will hear you and know you and love you.
