what if jerusalem was totally destroyed?
What if jerusalem was totally destroyed. Swamped by rising seawaters, turned into a huge crater/s by a meteor or nukes, flattened into rubble by an earthquake, abandoned and bulldozed into a park, etc etc
Dont say "oh God won't allow it". Lets assume it does happen. If jerusalem does not exist anymore, would that be proof that the bible is not true? because a lot of prophecies which are supposed to be still unfulfilled require that jerusalem still be existing

If the city of Jerusalem was physically destroyed, someone would probably just try and rebuild it. Maybe not exactly as it was but as long as the land is there and not submerged under water or something like that, there is always the possibility of it returning in some form as has happened with other cities that have suffered from natural disasters.
For those that do hold Jerusalem close to their hearts, it is more than just a city, it is an idea, a dream even and as long as someone believes in that dream, it could become a reality. Isrealis spread out all over the world and they believed that one day they could return to their homeland and then the country of Israel was formed and many returned.
Personally I don't care all that much for the holy land. It is far from my home, I likely will never go there so it really doesn't matter to me what happens to it. As for prophecies, I don't really think much to them, the Bible was written by Humans, edited by Humans and printed by Humans and as well all know, Humans have a tendancy to lie when it suits their needs. Jesus may have existed but the events in the Bible could have been distorted by someone who wanted to make him sound more interesting.

You know... ironically you may have an intriguing point there.
how amusing... if Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launches against Israel and obliterates Jerusalem and turns it into a radioactive wasteland ... he may very well be proving the religion he follows false in the process. Hrm. A terrible loss of life and a world treasure of history, and yet, the irony of that holds a great deal of... intrigue.

Israel didn't exist as a nation for centuries, but Christianity made it through. All the Christians on this site think that if Jesus doesn't return in their lifetimes, the Bible isn't true. No sense of historical perspective.

I say we invade Jerusalem and burn it to the ground. After evacuating it's residents of course. Wait a week and see what the religious come up with as an excuse.
I'm kidding fundies. I don't have the power to mobilize an attack on Jerusalem...calm down.

If Jerusalem was destroyed, Tel Aviv would blame it on Muslims.
They are the scapegoat of the century apparently.

I actually believe the Bible prophecies are not concerned with a literal state in Israel. Despite what many Christians say, it is irrelevant to eschatology.

Actually, if that were to occur, what would go on next would be the rebuilding of the temple described in the scripture. It would be allot easier to do if the Mosque were not in the way.

You mean like the time that Jerusalem was more or less destroyed in 70CE by the Romans?

The bible isn't true anyways, whether or not Jerusalem exists or not or whether it's turned into a big strip mall.
