  • Can Cherenkov, Bremsstrahlung and Scintillation from radioactive decay or fission produce high intensity light?

I'm no physics expert so this might be a wild idea. Theoretically do you think a reactor can be made that relatively efficiently produces large amounts of light using Cherenkov, Bremsstrahlung and Scintillation or some combination thereof? If yes then maybe by capturing the light by using photovoltaic panels (or even beta voltaic panels) it could be a source of electric power?

It would be nice if efficiency and cost per kwh was in between normal nuclear power and solar photovoltaic.

Potentially no moving parts, except for the cooling system unless it runs by convection. The operating temp could be well below boiling point of water. No steam and no steam turbine. Making this a cheap electricity source at the small scale.

  • radiator coolant says "do not dilute"?

there were only a couple of radiator coolant brands in this store I visited. Both of them come only in half liter cans. The instructions say - more or less - "do not dilute" and "simply pour into radiator"

since a radiator needs maybe 3-5 liters of coolant, does that mean that (theoretically) if this were the only source of radiator coolant available to me, I would need to buy 6-10 cans to toally replace the coolant in my car's radiator?

Of course I can use distilled water but thats another subject

  • did you know that jewish slaves probably did not build the pyramids?

and there is no archaeological evidence of the events in the book of exodus

"The archaeological evidence of the largely indigenous origins of Israel is "overwhelming," and leaves "no room for an Exodus from Egypt or a 40-year pilgrimage through the Sinai wilderness."[21] For this reason, most archaeologists have abandoned the archaeological investigation of Moses and the Exodus as "a fruitless pursuit."[21] A century of research by archaeologists and Egyptologists has found no evidence which can be directly related to the Exodus narrative of an Egyptian captivity and the escape and travels through the wilderness"

  • clothes dryer lint filter missing?

I acquired a used front load tumble clothes dryer . Works fine, in good condition. Problem is, the lint filter is missing. What will happen if I keep operating it without the filter?

I'm guessing that the fan blades will get dirty fast. Since I use it infrequently maybe I can get away with opening it and cleaning the fan blades? Iets say no replacement filter is available

  • what bullet is on the poster of this film?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tournament_%28fil...

the name of the film is "the tournament". Wikipedia page above with a picture. Released in 2009.

I'm no expert but the angle of the neck of the case looks wrong and the amount of powder behind the bullet looks quite large for the bullet's size. I wouldn't be surprised if that was just a movie prop.

  • is it a sin for creationists to take medicines based on the principles of evolution?

Here's an example using AIDS. But the principle can be used for other rapidly evolving bugs like some flu viruses. AIDS is difficult to treat because it rapidly evolves. These new drugs use that rapid evolution against AIDS by forcing it into an evolutionary dead end

  • what would environmentalists do with nuclear fuel/waste?

Assume that one day that all nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons are banned and taken offline. Don't ask me how the dictators like in north korea were made to go along, but assume there is no opposition and everyone in the world cooperates. And assume that due to a breakthrough in renewable power tech, there are no power shortages

Ok so now you have dismantled all the bombs and the reactors. You have many many tons of nuclear waste, spent fuel, unspent fuel, depleted uranium from weapons and plutonium from bomb cores. What the heck do environmentalists plan to do with them?

Pretty much I think you have at least 4 choices and AFAIK most environmentalists dont want them because they are what the nuclear industry is trying to do

    1. vitrify the wastes, seal them in containers and bury them somewhere safe

    2. grind it into powder and mix with the leftover rock from uranium mines until the radioactivity is equal to uranium ore then seal it back in the mine

    3. dump it in the sea along subduction zones

    4. construct new nuclear reactors to transmute the radioactive materials into other elements with shorter half lives, and generate electricity in the process

personally i would go for #4

  • do creationists accept HeLa cells as a case of macro evolution?

    source

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HeLa#Helacyton_gartle...

HeLa cells or Helacyton gartleri are arguably a new species that evolved from humans. This is a case of macro evolution from a mammal to a ... well, i call it a microbe since it is single celled. Others are Canine transmissible venereal tumor and Devil facial tumour disease.

Its arguably a new species since there are so many mutations and obviously it can't reproduce with a human

lets set aside the "there is no such thing as macro or micro evolution only evolution" debate for a moment

so, do creationists accept it ? I dont have high hopes though

  • type of internet plan that is time limited?

If "capped" internet is an internet plan where you have a limited amount of data that you can download, what do you call the type of internet that only gives you a certain number of hours? Usually there is no cap so you can download all you can, limited by the maximum speed of course. And since it is time based, even if you don't down or upload anything, as long as you are connected, you use up the time alloted.

this was common during the days of dial up and is sometimes seen with 3g based internet

  • mouse speciation observed - evidence for evolution?

what do anti-evolutionists think of this

Britton-Davidian collected hundreds of mice from about 40 locations around the island and found six distinct populations. The common brown house mouse of Europe, presumably the ancestor of the Madeira mice, has 40 chromosomes, but the six families of Madeiran mice have between 22 and 30.

The current families of Madeiran mice are not short of genetic material. They have not lost any DNA. What happened is this: over time, some of the chromosomes fused together, packing more DNA into some chromosomes. Each of the six unique populations of mice on Madeira has its own special assembly of fused chromosomes. Each group of mice may now be its own species.

The diversity of fused chromosomes seems to have occurred in just 500 years, or between 1,500-2,000 generations of mice, says Britton-Davidian. Furthermore, the huge diversity in chromosomes has evolved solely from geographic isolation rather than adaptations to different environments.

  • what if jerusalem was totally destroyed?

What if jerusalem was totally destroyed. Swamped by rising seawaters, turned into a huge crater/s by a meteor or nukes, flattened into rubble by an earthquake, abandoned and bulldozed into a park, etc etc

Dont say "oh God won't allow it". Lets assume it does happen. If jerusalem does not exist anymore, would that be proof that the bible is not true? because a lot of prophecies which are supposed to be still unfulfilled require that jerusalem still be existing

"Harry Potter actress in hiding after death threats

Afshan Azad, the 22 year old actress who played Padma Patil in the Harry Potter series, has gone into hiding after receiving death threats from her family.

According to BBC News, her older brother recently admitted physically attacking her - though CBS (via UK tabloid The Daily Mail) notes that at the time, he seemed to be more concerned with how the arrest would make his family look in public. The court cleared him and his father of the charges of making death threats. Apparently, Ms. Azad is dating a Hindu fellow, and this has angered her conservative Muslim family, and most notably her brother.

AOL News has more details about the attack and death threats, as well as why Ms. Azad is refusing to testify against them."

judeo-christian means jews + catholics + eastern orthodox + all the other protestant sects

  • Why does Tefal cookware not give the kind of coating on their nonstick cookware?

DuPont markets several kinds of Teflon coatings for cookware. Arranged in order of decreasing price and durability (more or less) they are: DuPont™ Autograph®, DuPont™ Teflon® Platinum Pro, DuPont™ Teflon® Platinum, DuPont™ Teflon® Select, DuPont™ Teflon® Xtra, DuPont™ Teflon® Classic and DuPont™ Teflon® with Radiance Technology

    http://www2.dupont.com/Teflon/en_US/products/cookw...

I noticed that most of the teflon coated cookware in my local department store has those labels which clearly identify what kind of teflon coating they have. Tefal is one of the exceptions. Why? Do they have their own special formulation? Or do they just use one of those listed above and just say that their coating is tough?

Of course I have to assume that the different models may have different coatings but AFAIK tefal exclusively uses teflon too. It isnt one of the brands that uses alternatives like fancy ceramics.

  • do you know any anti 9/11 rallies or protests by muslims?

there have to be SOME moderate muslims out there who would rally against wanton murder of civilians. The rally or protest could either in cyberspace or in real life.

If there are none, then maybe some moderate christians and moderate muslims and moderates of whatever religion should get together and plan something. Atheists and agnostics are invited too.

Islam does claim to be a peaceful religion
