Which of the following two teams has been NFL champions?

This may surprise some but the correct answer is the Lions here is why:

Both have been champions but technically the Jets have never been NFL Champions because when they won Super Bowl III the NFL and AFL were still separate. So the Jets have been AFL Champions and Super Bowl Champions but never technically NFL Champions. Meanwhile the Lions have won 4 NFL Championships, all in the Pre-Merger Era (1935, 1952, 1953, and 1957 to be exact)

So to sum it up, The Lions have won 4 NFL Championships, while the Jets have won 1 AFL Championship and 1 Super Bowl (same year) but not the NFL Championship.

Only the Detroit Lions have been NFL champions. When the Jets won the Super Bowl, they were AFL champions who won the AFL-NFL championship game.

I continue to be amazed at the number of people who don't know or maybe can't comprehend that there was an NFL before the Super Bowls started. Thank goodness for the people like "dances ..." and "king of ..." who have a knowledge and appreciation of NFL history.

Maybe the media coverage of the Super Bowl will enlighten these lightweight fans when it's pointed out that the Packers have twice as many NFL titles as the Steelers. Yes, the Packers were kicking butt in the decades when the Steelers were the laughingstock of the NFL.

The last time the Lions were champions was 1957.

The Jets won the 1969 Super Bowl, but I don't think the leagues (NFL/AFL) had merged at that time.
