Have you heard or seen a politician do something stupid involving hunting or guns?

A few years ago a politician, who now has a radio show here in Iowa, felt it would be fun to canoe around central Iowa. He felt inconvenienced when he came to the fence surrounding the Army base north of Des Moines. Instead of going around, he snuck under the fence and ended up in the impact area for the M16s and M240s. He called the sheriff when the bullets started flying but was too embarrassed to reveal his location until gunfire increased. The sheriff eventually called the base and told them they had civilians in the impact area. The politician was escorted to the command office where he accused the commander of running an unsafe facility. The politician called newspaper and gave a completely different story, of course leaving out embarrassing details and it was all whitewashed except for us in the know. Any stories of politicians you know where they made butts of themselves hunting or with guns?

Update:

I forgave Dick Cheney. That was an accident. Anyone who has been dove hunting knows how they scatter and it hard not to get tunnel vision. His friend forgave him and he knows him even better than I do.

The one incident that springs to mind is Diane Feinstein doing a speech where for some reason she had an AK to show everybody. While talking about how she's had firearms training and how dangerous these weapons are and how nobody without her level of training should even thinkof owning one, she repeatedly sweeps the muzzle over the entire press corps.

The AK had a mag fitted, the bolt was closed, and the safety was OFF.

The press was of course, too stupid to be terrified.

EDIT: browsing around after CTM's posted video, I found this one. Apparently, many people have been shot with an unloaded gun:

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, when asked by Tucker Carlson in an MSNBC appearance why legislation was needed to regulate firearms with barrel shrouds, evaded the question to the extent that Carlson began questioning her as to exactly what a barrel shroud is. She shrugged the issue off as irrelevant until Carlson explained that her technical knowledge of firearms speaks directly to her authority to issue laws governing them.

It was at that point that she admitted she had no idea what a barrel shroud is, and speculated that it is "some kind of shoulder thing that goes up."

McCarthy, btw, was the champion of HR 1022, which would have reinstated and expanded the assault weapon ban of '94. Her expertise in firearms likely had something to do with the success of that particular resolution.

at a local gun shop and shooting range, before the Bush/Kerry election. the owner had blown up an article and plastered it all over the shop. it was an interview with john kerry about hunting. he was talking about hhow much he enjoys crawling on his belly through the forest. there were other silly things he said in the article. cant think of all of them right now, but basically he was trying to pander to hunters and sounding like a damn fool doing it. the shop owner was pointing out how, even though he talked like he was one of us and on our side. he was actually just running his mouth trying to snow people into voting for him.

It would be a shorter list if you asked for instances of politicians doing something SMART regarding hunting, shooting, guns, or just life in general.

One particularly fond memory is how the "assault weapons" ban got a whole pack of them thrown out on their asses. Downside was waiting ten years for the law to sunset.

    look at this picture

    http://exiledonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02...

We can see our lovely senator talking to a crowd of people about why we should ban "Assualt Weapons" If you look closely at the picture you will notice that a drum magazine is inserted, the bolt is closed, the safety is off, and her finger is on the trigger......

So remember guns are not dangerous, dumb*** politicians who don't know the first thing about gun safety are.

Anything and everything that Carolyn McCarthy has ever said concerning guns is not only stupid, but as an American it is embarrassing to me to have a person as ignorant as this woman is representing ANYONE in the political arena.

I shake my head over this one all the time.

What's funny is all the other clips (even the official one from TLC) have edited out the first 5 shots.
