my husband does not let our daughter watch her favorite show on TV. Do you think he is unfair with her?
My husband does not let our 9 year old daughter watch her favorite animated series, Kirby Right Back At Ya, because it is not child-friendly after his opinion.
My daughter is really frustrated and angry in him right now. My husband made his choice yesterday, and he is the head of the house.
I asked him why Kirby was not good for children, and he answered me that it was because one of the main characters, Escargon, was a hermaphrodite. I have never heard anything about Escargon being a hermaphrodite, and I don't think he looks much like one. http://www.flickr.com/photos/13820479@N05/22851656... Here is a picture of him. Do you think he is a hermaphrodite?
We are Christian, and hermaphrodites are against God. My husband told me he didn't want my daughter to learn about hermaphrodites yet.
Do you think he is unfair with her?
Yes, I am serious. My husband does not think it is appropriate for my daughter to watch TV shows with hermaphrodites, gays and lesbians in.

I'd say thats pretty unfair, Kirby has got to be one of the least one to worry about. I mean if she were to be watching that stupid things like south park, or adventure quest (that one the writer has got to be on drugs) but Kirby??? No kirby cant possibly be bad. Besides you say shes 9? Its probably a good thing she wants to watch kirby. Alot of kids around that age are already watching those shows that are just horrible. When i was little Kirby was one of the best things ever! :)
That picture to me just looks like a snale, its suppose to be a kids show because kids don't know everything adults do, which is why adults see the "issues" in the shows , although to kids they usually don't think anything weird about it untill someone says something. And in real life Snales are both genders along with frogs and other weird goey things that are just weird animals like that anyway. It may be againt nature for people, but for animals like those its perfectly normal. Thats how god made them slime and all. Its nothing like that in the cartoon I'm sure.

I really think she should still watch the show, it seems unjust for her not to watch a show because there are snails in them... Plenty of my friends are christian and they still watch those show. I know a friend who's parents are VERY religious and they still watch anime/Kirby. Kirby is so cute and age- appropriate. OK so maybe eating or keeping hermaphrodites are against god, but i dont think watching them is against god. If u saw a hermaphrodite, it isnt ur fault, it just popped out of nowhere. I dont think you would kill the hermaphordite because killing without a purpose is a sin. The same thing with watching the show. SO what if one or two of them popped into the show, doesnt mean it's the main character of the show. If ur husband is still as stubborn as ever, then try to get your daughter into a new t.v. show.

I wonder if he's saying it 'cause he's pink. (Just curious). Although I did Wiki Escargon and it does list him as doing oddly effeminate things. But that doesn't equal being a hermaphrodite. To me, I don't even think it equals being gay or anything.
And I don't believe that hermaphrodites are against God. If my understanding of the term is correct, they are born that way and isn't it said that we're created in God's image? (Normally I hate bringing religion into things, but I felt the need to point that out.)
But is your daughter asking questions about it or anything? You say your husband doesn't want her to learn about that kind of thing now but if she's not asking, then nothing has to be said. And even if she does ask, there's nothing wrong with saying. I remember when I was younger (probably even younger than your daughter is now) I asked my mum where babies came from and she told me. I mean - she told me more from a biological point of view, but it wasn't like "You're too young to know that sort of thing" or anything.
If you want my honest opinion - I think your husband is being somewhat unfair on your daughter and I also think that you have a right to express how you feel and how you raise her as well. I suggest you talk to your husband and explain your concerns with how he's reacted.

not to be rude, mam, i think you're husband is a bit overprotective...hahaa
'Kirby right back at ya' seem to be a kid anime for me.
And even if the snail is hermaphrodite, there won't be a scence where "that" happen. And your daughter she's 9...she doesn't know anything about it so blocking would be a bad idea because she will try to find out why she can't watch it, and then she might find out about hermaphrodite.
It's just my opinion though.

It never mentions that he's a hermaphrodite so how would she know! Most kids her age don't know what sex means how will she know what a hermaphrodite is? As long as you don't tell her she probably won't learn that piece of info ever in her life. I just learned today that snails and slugs are hermaphrodites and that's because of the question. Im twelve and just know heard of it, your husband is over reacting.

Hermaphrodites have an actual physical deformity. They were physically born with two different genitals.
I'm Christian and I'm pretty sure people inflicted with this are welcomed by God.
And I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be an animated kids show featuring a hemaphrodite.
If you really want your child to watch it, just tape it and let your child watch it when your husband is not there.
You have a say in what your child watches too..because she's YOUR child too.

Yes, he's being unfair, not to mention fanatical. The show doesn't say or even hint at anything related to hermaphrodites, and I have no idea what would lead your husband to believe otherwise. He should just be happy she doesn't want to grow up like Miley Cyrus.

This has to be a joke
Snails are hermaphrodites
But it is a cartoon so it doesn't adhere to real life biology.

Kirby is a snail and snails are hermaphrodites.
