Swelling up to my thighs, what remedies worked for you?

I am 27 weeks pregnant and have bad welling up to my thighs. I have been given circulation stocking to help, i elevate my feet and drink plenty of water. Is there anything else that worked to relieve your swelling?

Update:

I am being monitored very closely by my obgyn and have early stages pre eclampsia. Just need some ideas for relief! Thanks!

Have you talked to your doctor since this swelling progressed that high? While some swelling is normal, anything excessive needs to be checked out right away as it could be preeclampsia. I'd give your doctor a call in the morning, or go to the hospital right away if you are also having vision disturbances or headaches.

Staying off your feet as much as possible is the best thing you can do. Make sure you're not wearing shoes that are too tight, and compression hose (circulation stockings) will help. Also cut back as much as possible on any forms of sodium as that can cause you to retain water. Sodium occurs not just in salty foods (chips, salt, soups etc), but also in many foods made with preservatives (muffins, cookies etc). Increasing your fruit and vegetable intake (making sure to get the 5-10 servings per day you should be getting) and cutting back or eliminating all processed foods will help too.

Massage - but you have to be careful because their are pressure points that can bring on contractions. And a warm bath. If your that swollen at only 27 weeks it is time to contact your doctor.
