Any mature returned Peace Corps volunteers out there?
My husband and I (ages 59 and 54) will retire as educators in a couple of years. He has taught at every grade level, regular and special education, and has experience working with emotionally disturbed boys. I am a social worker and counselor - experience in mental health, education, public health, child welfare. Both with master's degrees. We are considering applying for the Peace Corps. Anyone out there volunteered as a couple? Our age? Know any blogs we can go to for more discussion? Thanks in advance.

There are only 2-3 RPCVs who monitor this board, and none of us served after retirement or as part of a couple.
I'd suggest going to the Peace Corps Discussion group that Yahoo has and asking questions there. It dates back to 1998 and has a complete searchable archive. In the files (or maybe it's the folders) section, there is a discussion on married couples who apply.
The couples question comes there once in a while, and I think there's at least one couple active on that board now.
In general, the application/placement takes more than a year for couples, or that's what I understand from the discussion group.
I served in Morocco, and we had several married couples there. It's unusual, but not that unusual. I think in the stage that replaced mine, there were three married couples, plus at least one in the other sector.
Peacecorpsjournals.com has a list of volunteer blogs. Sometimes you can tell by the titles if it's a couple serving.
You can also talk to a recruiter and check with any RPCVs in your area -- you can poke around to find a group.

Hey Angie, it is Michael :) Anyways...I suppose the purpose you are no longer getting plenty of solutions is given that your query probably underneath the incorrect class. Anyways...I like your plan, besides, the money turns out to get in the best way of it. How approximately you become a member of Peace Corps after prime tuition so you'll get a gorgeous prime-paid task in your eventual school money owed. Then you sign up for school (incidentally your Peace Corps will seem high-quality to your software) and expectantly persist with your identical aforementioned task so you'll repay scholarships and so on. Then after graduating you'll rapidly pursue your profession as a instructor. That's my advice. You recognize wherein to uncover me ;)
