How long before your wedding should you have a bridal shower?

Also, how far in advance should you send out invitations to it?

Update:

I'm not throwing myself a shower, my maid of honor is doing that. She was just curious as to how to go about it. Thanks :)

Typically, the bridal shower comes 3-6 weeks before the wedding. Invitations should be sent out 2-4 weeks before the event so the guests invited have enough time to plan, get babysitters if need be.

If someone chooses to throw you a bridal shower they will take care of the details such as choosing the date and sending out invitations. Your role is as guest of honour so just sit back and enjoy.

First of all, you are not supposed to host your own bridal shower. If you are planning one for someone else, I would suggest 2 to 6 weeks before. Having it more than that in advance seems silly.
