Best Nursing Specialty?

I'm in my first year of college trying to get my BSN. And I'm still unsure what i would want to specialize it. I was taking about being a ER nursing, because they seem like there always doing something and always on the go which i would like alot. But what other nursing specialties are fun to be haha..? I heard about nurse anesthetist and how they make a lot of money. But i don't really care about money, more just helping people. But a decent salary would be nice to. And plus i heard nurse anesthetist have no free time so i wouldn't like that at all.

But whats a good specialty for a Male nurse in chicago thats exciting to do and has decent pay?

I wouldn't call the field of nursing to be "exciting". You are helping some very sick people. I would think that the word "rewarding" or "sense of helping someone" way more appropriate.

    Some other fields may involve:

    Surgical

    Trauma

    Orthopedics

    ICU

    ER

These fields often involve quite a bit of lifting as the patients are usually not able to lift themselves, or to assist in anyway, You might also want to consider the psychiatric ward too, as some patients need to be restrained in this area.

I hope that this helps you.

Once you enter the BSN program you'll be exposed to various types of nursing so you will get to experience it all. The good thing about nursing is that you can specialize in one area for a while... and if you hate it you can go work in a different area.

It's all about personal preference. See I would love Neonatal or Pediatrics because I'm still a little kid at heart and would love to work with babies or kids and improve their life.

The ER will be slow at some times and it will be hectic at other times.

You also have general nursing, surgical nursing, long-term care nursing (nursing homes), ICU nursing, geriatric nursing, cardiovascular nursing.... you name it then i'm sure there is a specialty.

Nurse Anesthetist requires more schooling than a BSN.

Find something you're passionate about... if you don't then you'll end up hating your job.

definite, loss of life is a factor of the interest. the only way you will not cope with it as plenty is working in a doctor's workplace - yet even then, it fairly is going to be there. I accept as true with the different answer - wait until you initiate off clinicals/rotations after which you are going to be waiting to choose extra suited.
