Should I buy my daughter a mac?

maybe buy her a computer that is easier to use because mac's have many applications and if a 12 year old gets a mac she will ruin it. if one drop of water falls on the mac it will die. It depends if she knows how to use a mac. you should get her a dell or acer because they are easier to use.

A Mac is a work of art, you should know because you definitely spent well over the baseline $1,000 on it. In a nutshell, Mac>PC. If you believe that your 12 year old really needs a computer that's perfect for college and can afford it, then sure. But consider her needs. Playing video games, writing two page papers for school, video calls? I personally would wait until she goes to college.

Setting aside the fact that I'd never buy ANYONE a mac...

Does your 11 year old NEED a computer? Are there school functions that she can perform with them? Or is she just going to take it into her room so that she can talk to that guy with the cute bear avatar that she saw on Yahoo chat?

Just make sure that if you give your young child a computer like that, you have Chris Hansen waiting in the living room while you're away.

Why would the 17 year old care? If she's got the better Macbook, what is there to get worked up over?

Not when she's 12, get it for her when she's 13 or 14.

No .. and the person above clearly has no idea what they're talking .. Macs will never be better than PCs .. there's good reason why most software is developed for PCs. Mac is proprietary junk.

my 6 year old son has a laptop, so why not? btw, he is quite knowledgeable now in computers :)
