Should i buy her a mac?

Should I buy my daughter a mac?

So I bought a really nice mac book pro for my 17 year old for college. Now my 11 year Old birthday is coming up so should I buy her a 13in mac book pro for her 12th birthday? It would be smaller then the 17 year olds but i still dont want her to get mad.

Get her a netbook PC, NOT a macintosh.

Mac's are designed for WORK. A 12 year old is NOT going to use it for academic or structural engineering work which is what they are designed for. At best she will use it for school assignments where microsoft office are the key programs and they do NOT work that great on a mac. What she is MOST likely to use it for is gaming and social networking, for both of which MICROSOFT running computers are better.

Mac's are great if you are studying or working in design and engineering fields, but pretty useless for anything else. They don't even have that immunity to viruses that they used to have because the virus designers are now targeting Macintosh software!

Uh no. An 11 year old doesn't need her own laptop. Let her use her sister's when she allows it, or use your home computer if you have one.

An 11 year old does NOT deserve a laptop in the first place, let alone one the size of your older child.

No. Your daughter had to wait until she was 17, why should she get one when she's 11? That's not fair.

So your oldest actually accomplished something by earning her HS diploma and going on to college so you reward her and help her by purchasing a computer. Your 13 did nothing but give you sad eyes and you don't want her to feel bad. Somehow I think you are a pushover and your oldest child will always be more successful than your baby will always give you crocodile tears to get whatever she wants with no work at all.

No you shouldn't. If I were your older daughter I would be upset. If you're going to get your 12 year old a computer get her a small inexpensive one, that way she has something to look forward to when she graduates.

Id tell her she'll get one too IF and when she goes to college.

Personally I think that's too young for such an expensive TOY (which is how it will be handled)
