Rating the Best answers - Why many people awarding 2 star, or 3 star for the real best answers?

some members giving 4 stars. i will always give 5 stars. Are they rating the best answers after reading the answers ? i find many members hesitates or something even to thank the best answers and all others. what mentality is this?

Madhukar sir is the best friend to all including odampully. He gave a nice answer to mr odampully's question. mr odampully rated the answer with 4 stars.

Is odampully giving the stars from his own earnings? why this conjuce nature even in awarding best answers?

what is your opinion?

Update:

Because the position of Asker one should not climb to the top of the tree. The Asker is not a Lord or Emperor or hi..hi..hi..Queen. i did not get such 3,4 stars and i have no angry on anyone.

Somehow i always give five star because i feel bad that if someone is getting ten pts then how can I give him one or two star.....best answer =ten pts =five star.

I think daya is right that if someone gives less then five star they should give their own reason also .

That is the personal choice of the questioner, whether to give one star or five star. Even i dont give all BA's 5 star. I must feel that it is up to my expectation or more than that to give a 5 star. All the stars have a meaning. 3 stars mean fairly good, 4 stars mean good and 5 stars mean thorough and informative. So the in the question that you cited, Odampully must have not found the answer thorough and informative but found it good, so given 4 stars. Whats wrong with that?

@Daya. You have a very wrong idea of Democracy and also this is not a democracy forum. Does yahoo anywhere state that? It is in the interest of the questioner which one to choose and how many marks to give. End of story. If someone does not like it, he can go and take a hike, but dont crib and cry here. It is not me who should come down, it you who must come up. I know its difficult, but it will be worth the effort. You need to grow up and stop talking in favor of some and criticize others....always.

@ Always Good. I wonder how come a senior member like you posted such a question, targeting another member whom you claim to be a good friend? You can check in any answer of mine, if i have criticized any other answers, just for the sake of it. You can see, how members like 'Daya' react, it is because you have given such members an opportunity to criticize and fart all over the forum. I can also, answer every question and criticize the other answers. But this forum will turn out to be very ugly. Because i am very good at criticism. I hope you can understand that.

Choosing the number of stars while choosing best answer is asker's wish... No one have any rights to ask this even in private... Not necessity to bring this tiny thing as an issue in public.... How many stars we are here giving & getting is not important.... How our answers are helping to others is the matter...

In examination if you wrote perfectly & attended all questions correctly without having even a single mistake... But no one gives you 100 Marks fully.... 98 0r 99 only will be awarded... Only in mathematics you can score full out of full.... According to me Mr Odampully did nothing wrong... He feels to give 4 stars... Thats all... Nothing wrong in that....

EDIT -@ DAYA.. Every individuals haves their own opinion.. Every one haves their own mentality, attitude.. May Odampully sir feels the answer is good but not an informative & thorough answer... So he decided to give 4 stars..... What explanation you are expecting from him?? Yahoo! already gave informations about the stars... 1) Decent but not great 2) Average... 3) Fairly Good 4) Good 5) Thourough and informative.... In your & asker of this question point of view is the said best answer is thourough & informative.... But Mr odampully sir feels its only good.... Its his point of view... How can we comment about others views....

Every member should explain why they give 2, 3, 4 stars to the particular answer if not they should give full five stars. This is democratic forum. '' i will decide '', '' no one can question '' should not come. you reduce the stars to 2, 3 or 4. No problem, but say reasons.

''Because of this reason, i gave 4 stars, 3 stars''.

Mr Madhukar is also a friend to me. He gave a good answer. so, this asker asked the asker of that question to award 5.

Balaji sir and Maddy Max sir should come down. All askers did not came down from the sky.

  • How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.
  • I really don't understand, when a person has chosen to give 1 or 5 star, that itself tells the reason why he has done so, and the reason is well explained by Yahoo and Veers sir has outlined it in his answer. I would not question questioner's authority or ability to chose right Best answer or award stars to the chosen best answer. If someone is dissatisfied, refrain from answering the questioner.

Apologies if I am sounding harsh, but these kind of question sounds like personal question. If we are here to contribute, and gain, then why to worry about BA and stars? The questioner is judging the ability of the users and users are judging the ability of the questioner by his selection. My opinion is against questioning any user's authority to judge best answer or award stars.

  • Following are the Yahoo designation for different number of stars.

One Star * ~~~~~Decent but not great

    Two Star ** ~~~~~ Average

    Three Star *** ~~~~Fairly Good

    Four Star **** ~~~~ Good

    Five Star ***** ~~~~ Thorough & Informative

Mr.Odampully feels your answer is Good and gave you 4 stars ****. There is nothing wrong.

  • I will always award five stars, unless I firmly believe they don't quite deserve it..

Like if I only get one answer, then I'm forced to choose that one... but if it doesn't quite answer my question, I only give it 3 stars...

I don't like it when people only award 1/2/3 stars... I feel like I've been chosen as best answer under false pretenses, in a way.

Awarding five stars doesn't affect you in any way, nor does awarding one... we may as well give them five.

    There's no harm in it.

I totally agree with you!! :)
