I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue. Lately, the ABS system has hiccups.?

What I mean is that if I stop a little harder than normal, the ABS motor kicks in as I hear whining near the master cylinder and I can feel the pedal pulsing. Then after a few seconds, the ABS light goes on. My questions are, why is the ABS kicking in? What might be wrong with the ABS? Bad Sensors? The car drives fine otherwise. And since it is a free and clear title with low mileage, I am keeping the car. In anyone's experience, what might be the cost to fix?

the abs system is detecting wheel slippage check your tires first (air pressure and tread) if that is ok then you need to put it on the scan tool to see which sensor is messing up but chances are system is operating correctly to much air or to little air will do this
