should I join the Air Force Linguist?
I'm a native Vietnamese that was born and raised in Vietnam, I went to the U.S in 2009, now I have 2 citizenship Vietnamese and American. I want to join the Air Force Linguist because I can fluently speak, listen, write, read in Vietnamese, but I'm not sure how useful is Vietnamese in the Air Force? Since right now, Arabic and Chinese seem to have the bigger role. And I plan that right after I graduate from high school, I'd sign up for the Linguist, but I need to know if this is a good career to follow? Can I get promote if I do a good job? Will they transfer me to Vietnam or something? Thank you for your help.

Although it is possible to join the Air Force with dual citizenship, you cannot be a linguist with dual citizenship. The job comes with a top secret clearance which you cannot get with being a citizen of Vietnam as well. You have to be an American citizen and ONLY American. Even if you became solely an American citizen, the amount of time it would take to process your clearance would be extremely extensive because of the amount of foreign contacts you still have. I would look into being a translator for the FBI if you wanted to use your language for the good of the country.

talk to a recruiter tosee if you can become a vietnamese linguist. if that job isnt available you can always just get a regular job, take the language aptitude test, the needed languages get extra pay, the more important the language is to the military, the more you get paid. if you get linguist in the language you specialize in, theyll send you wherever you are needed for your skills, may not specifically be in vietnam. multilingual highly encouraged to apply.
also check in with other branches if possible. some offer unique roles. ie. Army Special Forces whose mission specifically needs multilingual people to help with indigenousness forces, its extremely tough though. good luck!

I don't know a lot in regards to the Air force, however I managed to spend a while at the protection Language Institute in Monterey, the place you are going to go for linguist coaching. Monterey is super. Attractive post, lovely area, and, exept once I flunked out, it was the best time I ever had. It was once slightly costly, however it used to be a exceptional place. As a Marine, there used to be no actual downside. All the females cherished Marines. All i will be able to say is that the Air drive guys had been at the backside of the list for women. Air drive, military, Navy ladies all wanted a boyfriend who might supply them a dogtag that said USMC on it. So, as opposed to the truth that you aren't going to get laid for 6 months to a yr, you can have a nice time.
