Would like some good advice please!?

I just recently became a SAHM, as before I was a social worker for misdirected youth. As much as I love being at home with my little ones, I'm having a little bit of a problem not working, but I don't want to go back to working out of the home. Those of you who run a daycare from the home, how did you get started. What do I have to do to get started? How did you advertise? Lol I don't even know which questions to ask... Please help!!! No rude answers please, just not in the mood to deal with that today! Thanks so much!!!

Update:

What problems am I having? Well I'm a little bored, I'm so used to working and bringing home a steady check that even though financially i don't need to work I feel terrible for not working. I also think that running a daycare would be something I would enjoy.

Depending on your state you might have to get a daycare license. They aren't too difficult to get. I think it also depends on how many children you plan on caring for.

You can advertise in your local paper or even on something like Craigslist. You can also post flyers on church bulletins or even outside other daycares (lol).

It also helps to be CPR certified. It's a major plus for parents when they're looking for daycare providers. It doesn't take too long to get certified.

Good luck! I've always thought about running my own daycare too, but I have too many of my own kids I couldn't handle anymore lol

My daughter's babysitter is a SAHM. She watches my girl 4 days a week, another little boy 2 days a week and then another older child pretty much whenever she is needed. I don't know how much the other parents pay her, but she makes $160/week from me alone. Since she only watches 3 kids (and 2 of them are only part time) she doesn't need an in home daycare license. She looked into acquiring one anyways (so she could take on more children) and she said it is a huge pain. The lengths you have to go through to childproof your home (by state standards, mind you) are borderline absurd and I can only imagine all of the other paperwork and hoops there are to jump through. If I were you, I would Google "In Home Daycare License Requirements in (your state)" and see what you can find that way.

What problem are you having exactly would help a lot here (bored, adult interaction, financial, etc)

Just a little fyi - I sometimes get bored as a SAHM and thought a good solution would be taking in an extra child. NOT. I was so frustrated. The mom was late picking the kid up b/c she wanted to stop by the gym....the girl vomited when she arrived the first day b/c she was so upset about being left in a strange place...plus the supposedly potty trained child peed in her pants 3 times that day. SOOO much harder cleaning up another child's vomit and pee than it is your own.

Be careful. It is harder than it seems. My advice, make sure you get Liability Insurance. If someone Else's kid gets hurt or their parents fall outside, they can't sue you unless they can prove that you could have prevented the injury or injured the child on purpose. Other than that, you do not need to have a licence but you have to find out how many kids you can have and what ages for your state. Otherwise, you can get reported and fined. You can advertise in the paper, on an online site, or on mailboxes and bulletin boards. Good luck. Hope you enjoy it.

    Hey There

I am currently a stay at home, work from home mom and it took me a few years of research to find a home business that actually worked after trying 3 that failed. It was great to have so much support and training from other people that actually do the business and succeed at it. There's no selling, no inventory and no crazy start-up fees. It's the perfect opportunity to work from home as you can work it around your schedule.

So as to follow Yahoo's TOS, and if you would like to find out more information on what I do the links can be found IN MY PROFILE.

    Make it a great day.

    Thanks,

    Krista
