Why do cats love to sit on paper.?

While I do my homework (or any work with paper or books) my cat (Simba) sits on my paper or books? I love my cat so much and don't want to make him get off but I have to so I can do my homework. What should I do? Why do cats do this? How can I keep him off without having to tell him no or be mean in any way?

If you have every experienced this or anything close to that please tell me (unless your uncomfortable with it) and tell me how you reacted.

Thank you!

Update:

Also I know this has nothing ot do with this but while I'm asking a question how come sometimes when you ask a question it doesn't work but you still get deducted 5 points?

Update 2:

Stella Noel-Yes my cat bites my eraser though. It is cute.

Miss Money Penny- this doesn't have to do with cats but whatever. Ok well I just wanted to tell you that I don't know anything about horses and I looked for your question but couldn't find it. ( my apologies)

Thanks to everyone who answered

Update 3:

Thank you kato! I'll try that.

Ah the days of homework and cats. My cat Freddy used to lie on my desk under the desk lamp, and bite my pencils, and play with the papers and books. Isn't that a treat?

I've also had cats who come and lie on the newspaper when I'm reading at the kitchen table, and they seem to hone right in on the exact article I want to read.

The only way to deal with it is carefully pick up the cat and cuddle it and then go back to your homework and start all over agian

Sophie, I have the same problems with my cats while I'm working on my computer, I do a lot of work from home and they are always jumping up on my desk - Chloe likes to play with my computer mouse while Amber, like your cat, loves paper, she chews it because she likes the taste, making trying to get any work done a nightmare. Anyways, I think I've solved the problem, cat toys with feathers - they love them, so when I'm in my office working they get their feather toys.

Daft cats but hey I love them to bits lol.

cats like warmth and paper is a good source of heat insulation. And they also like you attention so you doing your homework will make them want to sit or lay on it to have you attention =3

They like paper because all of your attention is on it and if they are on the paper your attention is on them. Attention = Affection.

Plus do you notice they swat at your pencil when you write? That attracts them because they think you're playing.

I do my homework at night in bed and my little kitty Mickey comes right up lays his paws on my books and swats at my pencil messing up my writing. Frustrating at times but sooo cute!

Cats like to sit on things that seem interesting or new to them. When your cat sits on the paper and, I am guessing, cleans himself on it, he might be trying to claim it as his. It is normal, and lots of cats do it, even mine. They even like to walk on top of computer keyboards. Just enjoy it! Cats usually like to keep their feelings to themselves.

As for the question thing, if no one answers it, you get your five points back ;)

Pops does that to me to smite me. He is saying to me "ha ha! i am disrespecting your space by using what you are reading as my bed!"
