Why do cats meow? Besides for their basic needs.?

Just curious if there is a real reason, or if they sometimes just to "talk".

Our 9 month old kitten, just meows all the time. And it can't be because she is hungry or thirsty as her bowls are full. And sometimes it can't be because she wants attention as she will bite you and/or walk away.

I saw a documentary on PBS a while back that said that the meowing noises that cats make at humans are sounds that they ONLY make at humans and that they never make those same sounds at other cats. So, I guess that, since we humans talk ALL the time, almost constantly, they're just joining in, like maybe they think we're all singing or something. ;-)

    Good luck!... :-D

its just how they talk. Our cats meow a lot like they are talking to each other and the kids think its funny when they meow to the cats and the cats meow back like they understand each other

Some cats are very talkative and some rarely make a sound. Sounds like you have a talkative one :)
