Do you know about Sweeney Schriner....Hockey?
I FINALLY picked up last week The Hockey News 100 greatest players all time by position, and something caught my attention while reading. A guy named Sweeney Schriner was ranked #16 for left wingers, winning two Stanley Cups with Toronto in 1942 and 1945. His playing career was from 1934-1946, so it wasn't that long. None of this surprised me, but It says he was born in Saratov, Russia.
So is he the first Russian born player to play in the NHL? Or the First European player? I just thought it was pretty interesting and would like to know more I guess lol.
Other random questions out of boredom:
BQ1* My mom is so lucky and she gets to go to the Wings game tomorrow against Vancouver with my Aunt and they are sitting in row 11. I'm happy for her because she deserves it, but I AM jealous haha....what is the closest seats you ever had?
BQ2* Do you think Toronto will end their Stanley Cup drought before or after a Team that hasn't won a cup yet wins? (ex: Vancouver, San Jose, etc)
BQ3* I recently went back on yahoo answers and read all of my old questions and answers from when I first got here. God was I annoying and dumb lol. Have you done this and have you changed at all (grew-up, matured) from when you first got on?
@@ Meerkat: Haha! I totally understand the Bob thing. I was scared too at first...and he called me "Blondie" lol. But I do the same thing now, I respect his opinions even if i don't agree and he does know his hockey. Plus it makes it fun on here in a weird way haha!

Well, NOW I'm gonna have to look him up!
True, he was born in Russia but he emigrated to Canada when he was a month old. With his family, of course. It doesn't say, but maybe his family was there for the government or his Dad just had a job there because David Schriner isn't really a Russian name unless, of course, they anglicized it. My granddad was born in Japan but his father worked in the British government so he was really English. Anyway, Sweeney was his nickname after a baseball player he liked and he eventually refused to answer to David (or the Russian version there of). I think because he really lived almost his entire life in Canada (and also played in the US) he was Canadian and may have been a Canadian citizen if his parents became so. He had a sister and her name was Mary.
My opinion is, saying he was Russian born is probably stretching the truth a bit. My granddad sure wasn't Japanese!
BQ1* She IS lucky! I'd love to see that game no matter where I sat. In February I got to sit in the 11th row for the Boston Bruins game. AWESOME! My 16 year old granddaughter went, too as well as her mom (my daughter) and little granddaughter's baby sitter. Last night she went with a boy who is a friend and they sat in the SECOND row. She sent me a message onfb from the game: "GRANDMAAAAA!!!!! SECOND ROW SEATS ARE FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!!". Yes. I was jealous.
BQ2* Is this a trick question? :o) I hope they do. Vancouver had their chance to win a Cup and blew it and I hope San Jose NEVER wins a Cup. Actually, I'd like to see Toronto win one before any team that never has.
BQ3* Oh yeah! I was SO touchy when i first got here and I knew NOTHING! I still don't know much but I now know that it's okay to admit that. It doesn't mean I always agree with the experts, though, and i have my opinions but when it comes to facts I am NOT reliable unless I look it up!
PS I used to argue with Bob, too. VERY futile. He once said to me, "I've got you in my crosshairs Granny." It kind of scared me even if I didn't unerstand it. Now I just try to have fun with him because I respect his knowledge which is great. I am not brown nosing. It's true! Doesn't mean I don't like to try and tease him, too. I just know I will never, EVER win! Just like living at home!

Russians were not a loud to play for an american leauge due to their sh*t hole of a government at the time I think the first russins came over in like 1990
BQ1* I have had legitimitly 3rd row seat a few times and glass seats we just sat in once.. I have a sort of scam that I do when I go to games here.. I lower bowl tickets then we take the train down to the arena and on our way to the bars to pre drink i talk to all the scalpers and figure out who has good seats then on our way back to game i will use my newly barley charged charms to get them to trade me my lower bowl tickets for their first 10 rows tickets plus a tip (usualy 5 to 10 bucks or some smoke) so usualy i can get 10th row or lower for around 30-40 bucks
BQ2* Before San Jose will never win a cup so help me god!!!!
BQ3* My old account is blocked but i know that I have.. when i first got here i used to get in arguments with Bob all the time.. that is kind of the litmis test to see if your a jackass or not.. That being said now that my account has started over im kind of starting to be a bit of a dick again.. i forgot how much fun it is..

David 'Sweeney' Schriner's parents moved to Calgary when he was 2 months old............and he's the first Russian/European born player to win the Art Ross Trophy.....but he was not the first Russian to play in the NHL, that honour falls on Val Hoffinger. The first Russian born player to win the Stanley Cup was Johnny Gottselig. Both Gottselig and Hoffinger were Blackhawks.

I never heard of Sweeney Schriner but from the info you have gathered so far it's an interesting story!
BQ1 I'ts great that you're happy for her... I'm jealous too. Best seats... nosebleed section
BQ2 I think Vancouver might do it this year. Ask all Sharks fans and they'll tell you this is the year their team won't choke... maybe... but probably not
BQ3 Hahaha! Well at least you have matured and you see the error in your ways. I have looked back and turns out I'm still annoying and dumb!

Sweeney Todd for helpful! Johnny Depp delivered it to lifestyles, yet in spite of out Johnny, that is nevertheless a astounding instruct. I fell in love with the action picture and the unique musical score. i like it! Mamma Mia may well be ineffective and uninteresting with out the Abba music, and the storyline basically stinks. Who relatively needs to ensure yet yet another instruct approximately who the toddler daddy is? that is like a Maury Povich instruct set to hint!
