when I go on the anime news sites, all I see are DVD releases, no new series.Anime was popular for a while, but did it slip away from the mainstream again?

no people are still bangin anime everywhere
naruto, bleach and other stuff are still being watched
although bleach has died down a little

It might be due to Japan's economy, but I am always reading of new animes being made :)

no fairy tail is going all out now i think it is going to be like bleach naruto and one piece if it is not now
