There are a lot more than four books in the NT. The earliest, which would have been one of Paul's letters, was probably written around 50 AD. No, no one was writing about Jesus in 33 AD.

Edit: Robert S--- actually the first was probably Hebrew Matthew (Called the Gospel of the Hebrews or the Gospel of the Apostles) which Mark used as a source. Greek Matthew was a little later and used Mark as a course.

The first link is a secular source that says that the Gospels were written in the first century.
Edit: Christian apologists will favor an earlier date for an obvious reason. Atheists who don't like Christianity will favor a later date for an obvious reason.
The second link claims that Luke lived in Philippi from 49 to 55 AD, and that this must have been when he wrote the first draft of his Gospel.

Firstly no one knows who even wrote the gospels. Christians overtime have rejected some gospels and taken only 4 into reliability. This is based on the early churches views.
Secondly, it is understandable that the gospels were not officially released to the public because the church had difficulties about what the Bible should include or exclude. It took several years, several different people and many different perspectives.
And thirdly, all of the gospels were written several years after Jesus.

Mid to late first century for the Gospels. Paul's letters mid century.
BTW there are 39 books in the New Testament. (Did you mean the four Gospels?)
" Romans (ca. 55-58 AD)
Philippians (ca. 52-54 AD)
Galatians (ca. 55 AD)
Philemon (ca. 52-54 AD)
First Corinthians (ca. 53-54 AD)
Second Corinthians (ca. 55-56 AD)
First Thessalonians (ca. 51 AD)"
Source(s): Edit: doh! There are 39 books in the OLD Testament! 27 in the New. - RickyLv 61 decade ago
According to the Church Fathers, Matthew was written first in Hebrew letters (It was later translated into Greek possibly by the Apostle Bartholomew) for the Jews, then Luke which was written in Greek for the Alexandrians, it was approved by Paul, Mark wrote possibly in Latin translating Peter's words from Greek to Latin (It was then translated into Greek) for the Romans, then John wrote His in about 90 A.D. in Greek for the Churches, especially for Ephesus.

The earliest of the synoptic gospels of the NT was written about 70 CE, decades after JC was supposed to have performed his miracles.

Not that we know, literacy was rare.
But somebody obviously took notes.
Because the Synoptic Gospels agree many ways.
The earliest gospel Mark may be 50AD.
The latest gospel John about 150AD.
