I'm looking to move out alone. Im trying to figure out costs. A couple answers on here said food will cost 100 a WEEK for 1 person. Thats outrageous right? Or is that true? How much do you spend, and how much can I expect to spend??

I shop very conservatively for the most part, find good sales and I'm not afraid to buy the store brand.....we don't eat like kings but we certainly don't do without and enjoy all the food I do buy and cook (There's my husband, myself and 3 kiddos, so a family of 5) and we spend about $250 sometimes a bit less, sometimes a bit more every two weeks which would be about $ 150ish a week give or take a little so yeah $ 100 a week for just you is a LOT, it shouldn't cost that much except maybe on the weeks where you need household items plus your groceries i.e. toilet paper, paper towels, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, soap, trashbags, cleaning supplies, etc. Those weeks always cost us a bit more of course but that's to be expected!!

When me and my fiance go grocery shopping at walmart we usually spend 140 dollars. And it lasts like 3 weeks. However, with my fiance always working he goes out to eat lunch every day. If you don't get a whole bunch of expensive snacks, you definatly wont need to spend 100 dollars a week. 140 dollars last me around 3 weeks plus dinner with my fiance every day for that month. We also have millions of left overs that we keep in the fridge and dont even touch, that ends up just being thrown in the trash. so we waste a lot of food :/.
EDIT: It depends on how much you eat and what you buy. We buy food that can be saved. Like those meals you throw in the oven that can feed a family of 4. So we put the rest in the fridge and have an extra meal. Plus I have a small stomach, so i cant eat a whole lot.

I spend about 180 every two weeks for 5 people. With that said I want to point out I buy in bulk and raw foods so I cook a couple times a day. Also I shop the adds and don't buy expensive stuff like meat unless its on sale. If you want convenience food that go from Freezer or can to microwave they almost always cost more. You should learn to cook if you don't know how to already. Then you could make stuff like spaghetti and have it that night and the next day for lunch for 3 to 4 dollars for two meals maybe even three meals. Also buying stuff like chips in a larger bag and then putting it into a sandwich bag for lunches or to take as snack is much cheaper then buying the single serving bags. Look at cost per ounce and see what your really paying for is packaging. Some meals can be made in a big batch then frozen in smaller portions for quick meals down the road.
I knew one guy that spent close to 200 a week just to feed himself for 2 weeks. So 100 isn't that crazy a number. He never shopped the sales or bought store brands. Everything was convenience packaging and by the way he gained alot of weight. You can do better then that.
Some advice don't get sucked into buying ramen because it seems so cheap look around for the sales apples go on sale constantly. A nice PB&J and an apple is a way better meal then ramen noddles. Also don't buy your personal item such as TP, deodorant and laundry detergent at the market. Make a special trip for those items down to the walmart because they have the best prices on stuff like that.It is noteworthy to mention walmart has a limited selection of food there too and often its at good prices so its worth looking at.
Lastly make a list or two of items you need listed first then items you want. One for groceries one for household. It help if you have an idea what food you want to eat for the week so you can best write down your needs. Stick to your list. If you have extra money at the end then you can treat yourself.
Good luck. Sorry its so long hope it helps.
This is just my cost for food not household items.

For a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids - 21 months and 4 years), we spend about $100-$120 a week on groceries.
EDIT - Once a month, i also go to Costco and stock up on snacks, cheese, meat, etc. We also eat very healthy, I make all of our meals and we rarely eat out.

Well, we try to eat really healthy, so that makes it a little more. But I make everything homemade. We spend about 200-300 every other week. We also go out to eat once or twice a week. That's for 2 adults and one toddler. I use coupons too...and shop at walmart...

For me and my husband and our 16 month old, we spend about $100 every two weeks for a big shopping trip, and then we usually go out on the off weeks to buy produce and bread and spend another $20-$30. Per month we usually spend about $250 for the three of us.

This all depends on where you live, where you shop, and what you eat. I live in central pennsylvania and my boyfriend pays roughly $90-$120 every week or two at Wal-Mart for our groceries. We generally get frozen things, drinks, bread, lunch meat, and cereal (not a very healthy lifestyle).
