Are you a bad Christian if you don't evangelize?

Maybe "bad" is not the right one here. Maybe "incomplete"? Don't know.

Should ALL Christians evangelize? Is it a must?

Update:

Well, Brenda, you must be the fastest user typing!

No, whether God exists or not, that has nothing to do with what Christians see as their duty.

I am asking what THEY think, not about God.

Not all of us are called to evangelize or witness.

I don't think so. There are two things at work here; 1) evangelizing; 2) evangelists. Evangelists better evangelize, because God gave them to the church as a gift to the church. If they don't evangelize, they are being disobedient. As for any particular person, I think evangelizing is common, but the main thing is what God does with a person, not all are cut out for evangelizing. So the main thing is, what is God telling that person to do.

One mistake I think the church makes is taking some verses out of the Gospels that Jesus said to a few people, and expanding it to mean E-V-E-RY-O-N-E. So I think that is a mistake.

If Jesus Christ paid for all our sins, even the ones we haven't committed yet, how can anyone be a bad Christian. You are either Christian or you're not. If you are, there are spiritual gifts that have been reserved for you. Understand that not everyone is destined to be an evangelist. But all should share the gospel message with as many people as will hear it.

Not only evangelize, but speak about a specific subject as Jesus did.

(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the KINGDOM will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

This is a fascinating question. On one level, all Christians are called to evangelize, while at another level this is a ministry of those specifically called as evangelists and empowered by the Holy Spirit in their work. There are different ways of bearing witness to one's faith and all Christians are required to bear witness before the world. However, it can be disastrous to seek to evangelize in some circumstances where God has not given the go-ahead. The people concerned may feel that they are obeying God and doing His will, but this is not borne out by the fruits of their efforts. People who are truly called by God as evangelists tell me that they would not be happy unless they were doing it, daunting as it might seem to the rest of us to start preaching in trains or on the street to a crowd of possibly hostile strangers.

Having said this, I feel that there is something wrong with a Christian who is not known as such, who is not scrutinised by colleagues to see if his lifestyle is consistent with his beliefs, whom people don't approach when they want to talk about matters of faith (with the exception of those living in a country where the Church has to go underground). Every Christian is called upon to let his light shine before men. Every Christian is expected to have an answer to give for the faith that is within him. Only a minority of Christians, however, have the specific spiritual gift of evangelism.

    what's you definition of evangelize?

street corner soap box at the top of your lungs

or sharing your personal testimony with a friend

and daily living out your faith in the world?

I would say a Christian who keeps God under wraps

is a fruitless and ineffective Christian at best

On a personal level, no. But you should be part of a "team", that is a church, that is striving to do this work. You may not have the particular skills to engage in evangelism, but you are gifted in other areas that can be supportive of the team as a whole, so that those who are gifted in evangelism can remain focused on it.

simply yes Being a christian means to be christlike and followers of jesus. he set the example for us to preach the good news of God's Kingdom I am one of Jehovah's' Witnesses following jesus ( our redeemer) example Everyone needs to hear the good news the bible states this in matthew 24:14.

Of course there is much more evidence of why we have to tell others what the bible teaches.

Why don't you study with one of Jehovah's Witnesses and see for yourself.

    Take care

I think that you should never be ashamed of the Gospel. For example ; I work in schools. If a child asks me if I'm a Christian , I say "Yes". If they ask me for more info, I explain that I am really unable to say more in a school but encourage them to ask their parents or go to the library.

Evangelizing takes on many forms. One can evangelize by example, not just spouting the Gospel.

So, in essence, all must evangelize; not all should preach.

Well, it is one of Christ's final words to his disciples, so I know that we should. I know that I am very lax about it because I fear offending people. I forget that some may miss Heaven if I don't
