Is it ok that i am a Christian but i believe in evolution, big bang theory, etc.?

i am christian and i am devoted to my religion but am not crazy about it

however, whenever i go on someone website or read comments written by Christians they state that we do not believe in evolution, in the big bang theory, etc.

i disagree with this. i believe in evolution, the big bang theory. i think that being homosexual is natural to some extent (my friend claims that being gay is caused by demons)

i mean to not believe in evolution, when there is so much proof, seems sort of silly

in my opinion, god helps cause evolution, created the universe by causing the big bang theory, etc.

basically god is god and all the different theories and stuff like that are his helpers.

is it wrong that i do this? my family feels the same way but some of my other christian friends (including one who is from a different branch) disagree with me

its not like im going to go to hell for thinking being gay is mostly natural right?

btw if it helps im roman catholic

now unlike almost evry other christian who is going to answr this question and go on a bout how there is no science to evolution (even if i agree with them). im just gonna say this: as long as you believe that god exists and that he started it. thats the most important thing. for example, my brother reckons that god could have created the earth by starting "the big bang". ans a theory, he just drasws the line at the big bang starting from a wrinkle of nothingness.

but something i will say is that being homosexual, kindof contradicts the theory of evoluton if to gay people cant reproduce.

But ultimately, the wud be yes

Being a Christian does not mean you have to be religious, yeesh, I wish more Christians would realize this! Religion divides and does nothing for our soul and your faith, it just puts up barriers between Christians. And the best answer I can give you is that being a Christian does not mean you reject science, in fact, Christians embrace science. Some of the most brilliant scientists on the planet are Christians. Do you know why? B/c science actually helps to prove God, not disprove Him. Matthew 7:7

I think your particular sect of Christianity has issues with the homosexuality thing (though you're not *that* far out of the mainstream of Catholicism on that one, I think), but even the Pope accepts that evolution is scientific reality.

The only incompatibility is believing that the bible is *literally* true in every respect and believing in evolution.

The problem you will run into is a question of Biblical authority and inerrancy of scripture. You are saved by faith in Jesus as your Savior. But, you will find that atheists know the Bible better than lukewarm christians. And if you get into any debate with them, they will logically ask you why you believe the salvation account if you have doubts about the creation account. Essentially, it is the same Author. It is a valid question.

Back to our faith in Jesus as our Savior- did he lie? Or was he just misinformed? After all he believed in the creation account and the flood. And if those things are just "myths" and "fairy tales", then what reason do we have to believe that Jesus rose from the grave? It think that would be even harder to believe.

    Well, let's see...

The Bible speaks of creationism, not evolution. So, you're not Christian.

But the Vatican's recent teachings tell us that The Pope supports evolution, so you're still in good standing with them, so far.

However, the Vatican has also condemned homosexuality as being "unnatural" and a sin.

I don't know... I think you are skating on thin ice referring to yourself as a Catholic Christian.

Apparently you are not crazy about an awful lot of what your religion teaches.

No,it isn't, For those who hold to the Bible as the word of God, theistic evolution should not be a viable option. The Bible says, "Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us..." (Psalm 100:3). The Scriptures state that God created. God said, "Let there be..." and there was. The Scriptures speak of the creative word of God. When God speaks, it occurs. He said "Let there be" and it was so. It does not say, "Let there be a slow development through an evolutionary process."

God said in Genesis 1:26, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." The Hebrew word for "make" in this verse, and in verse 25 where God makes the beasts, is "asah." It means to do, work, make, produce. This is not simply the limited Hebrew understanding of evolutionary principles.

The land animals were made differently than man. The animals were made from the ground, but man was made directly by God: "the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being" (Gen. 2:7). Evolution states that man evolved from life forms that developed in the ocean. Here, God made man from the dust of the ground--not the water of the ocean.

If evolution is true and the Bible is true, then how is the formation of Eve explained? She was created out of one of Adam's ribs (Gen. 2:22). There is no way to explain this if theistic evolution is true; that is, unless you want to say that Eve wasn't made from Adam's side. Then, if you do that, you are doubting the very word of God.

Also, Jesus said in Mark 10:6 "But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.'" The beginning was not evolutionary slime; in the beginning of creation there was Adam and Eve.

Though this information is brief and far from complete, it should be obvious that theistic evolution and the Scriptures cannot be harmonized.

To not believe in facts would be foolish. I still think you are mistaken by your religion but if you're not trying to take evolution of schools and denying that which is fact....then I have no issues with you.

You'll have a lot of people tell you no. It's good that you think for yourself. Don't change that.

Yes, it's called being educated. Not only that, the Pope has declared evolution to be cool, and a Catholic priest developed the Big Bang theory.

Evolution and big bang are in total and direct contradiction to Christ.

Either you believe Him or you do not.

He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
