In my opinion, it's too much money.

You can go to a big box sporting goods retailer and buy a brand new in the box Stoeger uplander in 16 gauge for $350 plus tax. In the fall, they usually run sales on them and the price goes down to $325...sometimes even less! The Stoeger would be brand new and should have no mechanical issues. It would also have the factory warranty in case something should go wrong.

The Stoeger uplander also has a checkered hardwood stock, which makes for a better gripping surface.

Why would anyone want to pay $425 for a used 16 gauge when they can pay about $75 less for a new one?

While the price of these doubles has been increasing each year I do think that the asking price is too high. In Georgia I see similar 311's stickered at about $250 - $350. (IMO anything $200 and under would be a *very* good deal)

I bought a 20ga Stevens 311 for $250 recently. They are great guns, but not worth $450. Not even close.

Yes Savage Stevens originally made or manufactured it for Springfield.* It is actually a Savage Stevens Model 311 but its marked Springfield.* I have one like it.* The Price he is asking $425.00 Dollars is to High.* The True Value, or Worth of it is $350.00 Dollars Maximum.* They are currently selling at Auctions in Good Used Condition for $350.00 Dollars.* I paid $150.00 Dollars for mine two (2*) years ago.*

That's a $200 gun, tops. Offer him $125 and maybe go to $150. Beyond that, tell him to keep it. An old Springfield 16ga isn't exactly a hot item. He probably found out that 16ga ammo will eat you alive and he's looking to dump it for a 12 or a 20.

i wouldn't purchase the shotgun unless you get detail information or ask any professional gun enthusiast about it. usually all guns are engraved with the model and company info on the side. since this shotgun is a Side by Side the information should be carved on the side near the hammers.

Source(s): my friend has a side by side shotgun that was given to him. it is not a springfield but it is a 16 gauge shotgun.

I wouldn't do it. I think the gun is probably worth $200 tops, and I wouldn't buy an old double that I couldn't see how well it locks up in person.

If you are collecting and you know what this is- then its your call.

But I would not spend that much on an old gun, especially if I intended to use it.

    Look at a new Stoeger.

Its not close to being worth that price, its worth about half one the guy is asking.

Don't buy ANY gun from an individual online, without to being certified by a gunsmith, to be in good working order

if you plan on buying used guns, you should get a current copy of the GUN TRADERS GUIDE
