My cat has suddenly been doing crazy things?

In the past 3-4 days my girl cat who is about 9 I think, has suddenly started behaving erratically. The other day my mum told me how she was biting her feet and body out of nowhere and attacking random things in her sight such as her own tail or the floor. My mum even commented on how she thought when she came back from being out, she expected to find her dead as she looked very agitated and crazy-eyed. Anyway, when my mum did come home later on she found tufts of my cats fur all over her room - So obviously the cat has done this to herself :/

Then tonight my cat was behaving strangely again, attacking the floor, aggressively biting herself, but not as if she's got an itch or a rash, just that she looks angry.. But then she'll stop and just sit there with wide eyes. It's really quite scary - Also she meows (cries) to herself as she does this, or even just sits there doing it and staring at anything. After I left her alone when she was doing this, I went into my room about to put something in my wardrobe and she was in there! She never does things like this and once again her eyes were full and black.

My cat used to be a very angry cat because of when we got our second boy cat - But that cat died 2 years ago now and ever since she's become loving again, purring, always looking for attention and a lap-cat which she would of never considered when the other boy cat was around.

It's quite worrying that she's behaving like this as she's quite old now and it's almost saddening to watch :/

Any ideas - Sorry it's so long.. I'm just so concerned.

9 is not elderly. I agree with the other person. It sounds like something bit your cat OR the cat maybe found a bug and ate it and is reacting. Do you have a basement with spiders in it or water bugs? Is there any chance a mouse could have gotten into the house and the cat ate it? Do you have house plants?

    Look at environmental factors.

If there is catnip or catnip toys around pick them up for a few days. Catnip can make a cat aggressive sometimes.

Seriously, I think the cat got into something.

If it doesn't settle down in a couple of days taking it to the vet for blood work.

Whenever a cat's behavior changes dramatically, as your cat's has, it's time for a vet check. She does sound strangely agitated, which is concerning. At 9, however, she's not old. Cats often live into their twenties. I currently have two 9-year-olds and they don't act a day older than 3 or 4. Make a list of the crazy things she's doing, because the more clues the vet has, the easier it is for him to diagnose the problem. It could be that she's just playing. My cats will suddenly race through the house, separately, not together, as if they're being chased and then pounce at nothing on the floor, their eyes wide and tail puffed. It's like they get a sudden burst of energy (or get sprinkled with crazy dust). But since it's not typical behavior for your cat, you should have her checked out.

Did you get your cat her rabies shots this year. She might have it. You need to take her to the doctor right away. Don't let her bight you or anything. Not even a small scratch. Make sure you put her in a kennel when you take her to the vet. She might bite you because she doesn't want to be held if you don't. If you take her to the doctor right away then she might be okay. You need to schedule an appointment right after you read this. Rabies is a very harmful death. They start to forget everyone and everything. So it would be best if you don't touch her often until you take her to the vet. She might try to bite. Plus there is brain harm. And the hearing is echoed. Plus, when animals have rabies they try to bite and harm themselves. Then they will stop and be scared, forgetting everything it just did. And then look around in caution. Like what your cat does with wide eyes. Usually it takes 5-7 days before they start to foam. Take her to the vet pronto.

Have you changed her food or anything like that? I'm no expert, but it seems if this change in your cat is sudden, SOMETHING must be fueling it. SO what has ALSO changed? Food? Location? Litter box? Anything at all is something to consider.

The only thing i can think to tell you is to be EXTREMELY careful, because i've heard stories of perfectly loving cats suddently attacking their owners VERY badly. I've never seen it personally, but a few months ago a woman who's long-term cat brutally attacked her out of no where.

Try googling it? At this point, i would even consider visiting a vet. Good luck!

Take her to a vet. My cat was acting out of character and, when we took her to the vet, unfortunately, the news was not good. Your cat may be suffering and I am sure that is the last thing you would want. On the other hand, it may just be some skin irritation that can be cleared up. Hope so. The Vet will be able to tell you. Good luck.

Well many cats act similar to this. Now with the bitting it may be fleas or any other pest cats get. Attacking the floor? maybe fleas jumping off your cat onto the floor. If you don't hurry and go see a vet, your cat may be in serious trouble and may have to be put down.....which would be very sad.

Something is seriously very wrong, she needs a vet. 9 years old for a cat isn't old, my indoor cat is 19 years old and now for the first time in her life she shows signs of illness, I think she had a stroke.

Your cat needs to be examined by a vet before things can become worse.

My cat's past that phase. It still gets a kick out of prying open the blinds when I'm asleep or playing with some toys, but it's shaked off the kitten stuff.

It sounds like she is bored and lonely. She has nothing to do. Play with her or let her outside if she is an outside cat. She will find plenty outside to pay attention to. Take her outside on a harness if she is an inside cat. Dilated pupils is not ok unless it was dark.

Have you recently used a flea treatment on your cat? It sounds like she is being bitten by something!

If you havent - use some - if you have - taken her to the vet she could have a skin irritation.
