Why does humanity seem to think so highly of itself?

So we've learned all there is to know, seen all there is to see in our lofty several thousand years of civilization? Surely other aspects of reality would be known already if they existed, because we are they mighty human race! Nothing gets by us unnoticed! Personally I'm not impressed with anything we've done. There's got to be civilizations out there that make us look like howler monkeys doing tricks for globs of peanut butter.

We have been allowed to flourish unchecked for eons and in that time our egos have gotten out of control. But we have come a long way and have evolved enough to face a lot of environmental challenges. I truly hope that there are more advanced civilizations out there which will mean that our learning curve will be that much flatter!

That's no reason to become a Republican if that's what you're getting at. Compassion is the only thing that separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom. We should care about each other. If we don't all succeed then we cannot succeed at all.

There most likely are higher intelligent civilizations somewhere out there in the cosmos and yes they'd laugh at our primitive culture
