what happens at a early pregnancy scan? ( 7 weeks ) ?

Hia :)

I got to go for a early scan on Monday at my local hospital for a early scan at the early scan unit.

Im about 7 weeks gone, so early days, but ive had some light bleeding now and again when i go to the loo sometimes. Monday feels like years away :(

What would they do at a early scan? Would it be a normal scan or a scan through my vagina? If so, does it hurt? truthfully? I got to take a full bladder wee sample too to take with me.

Anyone had a early scan? How did they scan you etc?

Just want some advice :)

Thanks all x

You will most likely have an internal scan done, where they will insert a probe into your vagina. As they can see more clearly then over your tummy in the early stages.

I had one done at 6 weeks with my daughter because I was spotting. Its a little uncomfortable, but its worth checking to see if everything is okay. I could see a fetal pole, yolk sac and heart beat by that point. So seeings at you'll be a week more, you should definitely see them. Unless you not as far along as you think you are.

    All the best though.

    Scan At 7 Weeks

The other girl is right. They will use a vaginal ultrasound for this scan. They will first scan your uterus, ovaries, etc.to make sure everything looks good,or they did with me... Then, you should see what they call a yolk sac or gestational sac inside your uterus. Your baby's heartbeat may or may NOT be visible at this time.If it is not, they may want you to come back in a week or two to make sure they find a heartbeat. I have been through the same thing you are going through. I know how tough bleeding in pregnancy is and then having to wait. Try to trust your own body. I spotted some with my oldest son, and I thought the worst since I had 3 miscarriages prior to him... Turns out I had a yeast infection. Also, sex can also cause some spotting in early pregnancy due to the cervix softening and preparing for pregnancy. You could also be experiencing some late signs of implantation bleeding, especially if you are earlier than you think. The scan IS uncomfortable, especially on your bladder.LOL... I hope your baby is okay! Try to stay positive! I've been through 5 miscarriages, so I know it can be hard at times.Good luck to you, sweetie!

For early scans (I had one due to some spotting around week 9), they take a probe-like ultra sound tool and insert it into your vagina, as opposed to using the wider tool on the stomach. They don't put it too far in, and it's uncomfortable more than anything. If the tech isn't rough with you (which they shouldn't be) it shouldn't hurt. I would expect discomfort and coldness. It was really cool because I could see the tiny little baby and I was so relieved that I wasn't having a miscarriage. Good luck =]

i am 7 weeks and 3 days and I went yesterday to have an ultrasound done. my first appt was a few days ago as well, and she did have to feel around and in my vagina to see how big my uterus was and how it was places and it hurt a little bit but not too bad nothing i would be terrified to do again. i didnt enjoy it but then again, who would ? lol they gave me blood tests just to check for stds and to see the HCG pregnancy hormone level and urine test and sent me on my way. Thats pretty much all they do for the first appt, if youre scheduled for an ultrasound itll be internal and that is pretty uncomfortable but because its so early they have to in order to see it. and i got to hear the heartbeat !! it was soo amazing, an experience I will never forget. I wish you the very best, congrats on ur pregnancy !!

with my first pregnancy i had a scan done at 7 1/2 weeks, it was an internal scan so you dont need a full bladder but they ask that you have a full bladder just for a clearer view. it doesnt hurt dont worry they use plenty of lubricant. its reassuring to have one at this stage to know everything is ok, i saw my babys heartbeating at this stage she was like a small blob with arms and legs. i had one at 9 weeks with this pregnancy but it wasnt internal.

Bleeding/spotting is normal during early pregnancy & yes the doc will do a vaginal u/s cause its too early to see thru the tummy, the wand they used for the vaginal doent hurt at all just kinda weird lol but the u/s was about all they did, just to see if everythin is fine with the bby & you should also be able to get a pics to take home of your lil peanut(:

They may do a exteria ultra sound or an interior sonogram. Either way, it is not painful at all. You may get to see the "baby" which will look really tiny still on the screen, otherwise it should be a normal scan.
