Protein in urine at doctors?

I just went to the doctors for other reason but also because my back has been hurting so the doctor took a urine sample. But it wasn't a lot and they found some protein in it and apparently it's enough to be concerned about. So she gave me all the stuff and I need do it again and bring it in tomorrow. Could it be like that because I haven't really had anything to eat today? My dads family has history of diabetes. And I'm actually freaking out because when my mom asked what that means she didn't really say anything. And I'm only 15 soo yeah any answers are help full.

Update:

I just looked something up and it said that if you don't eat that protein can be found? I haven't been eating as much due to the fact I've also been sick for a week and a half. Could that be the cause?

Proteinuria is a possibility. This is a kidney problem in which the kidneys are not filtering your blood properly and protein leaks into your urine.
