Why won't my computer start?
I have an HP laptop computer. It shut off while I was watching a video on Hulu. When I tried to turn it back on, a message came up saying it was trying to fix problems. It asked if I wanted to restore to an earlier time but I chose to try to fix the problem. It then shut off again. Now it won't start at all. When I press the power button, three lights come on but nothing happens. The lights that come on are the power light, a lightning bolt, and an emblem that looks like three CD's. What can be wrong with it?

Yeah it's probably an issue with the ram (that's the most common problem).
Try testing that out first. Open up the laptop and remove one stick (assuming you have more than 1). Then start the computer, if it doesn't work do the same thing with the other.
If there is a faulty stick run on 1 until you can get a replacement.
If that doesn't work then your hardrive is probably dead. Hopefully you had your data backed up. (if you don't feel comfortable poking around inside bring to a repairman or friend who knows what they are doing, they might be able to diagnose the problem).

You may have fried your computer. If you do take out your memory sticks be sure to have the necessary anti static strap and use gloves. Preferably you should have restored to and earlier date, that would have fixed your problem.

Looks like maybe your RAM is screwed. If you have more than 1 RAM stick installed, try removing one and restarting the laptop, if you get the same issue, put the stick you took out back in and remove the other one and try again.

Looks like corrupted boot files. Plug in your Windows installer CD/DVD and boot from it. Do a repair of the operating system. If that doesn't work, try a system restore using the same disc.
