What's the best way to get the attention of a child who is deeply focused?

Our 6 year old has excellent focus when she wants something done.  She'll go out and will not stop until the chore at hand is completed.  The problem we have is that she is too focus where she tunes out the world.  We would have to ask her something 4 or 5 times before we get her attention.  We have no problem getting her attention when she is not focused on something, but when she has her mind set on something, she throws a tantrum if she cannot complete it her way.  Any advise.

My cousin was the same way, she would even wet herself or fight her sleep. She is still this way (of course no the wetting)..She's not as bad. I think just let your daughter grow out of it.

In this day and age when over medicated kids are trying to stay focused WHY do you want to interrupt a task until it is finished:?     ADD or ADHD is about the INability to stay focused.  Unless there is some thing radically important pending, try to let the child finish a task.    OVER RIDE the urge to be a control freak who must interrupt the child.   Ask yourself before interrupting if you honestly NEED to or just want to 
change what the child is doing to exercise your power over that child?    Can you really stand that SHE knows what she wants and needs to do without you running interference?  Be honest with yourself.   IF the child is on a schedule that is the close approx same each day, that child willl comply with the schedule.
THE security of knowing what comes next (with a schedule ) is very comforting to a child even when the resist at first or deny liking a schedule.   HONEST
