Question about Red Dot Scopes?
just got a mosin nagant 91 30 and i wanna get a red dot scope.
I will remove the rear sight pin and attach a picatinny rail or just mount the scope without the rail.
The mosin is 7.62 by 54r (obviously) and this gun WILL be for whitetail hunting AND recreational shooting. I just wanted to know what you guys think of either the Leatherwood Hi-lux red dot scope versus the Millett sp-1 red dot scope. They are both low to medium price range and they look pretty good to me.... which one to get????

Firstly, the US military doesn't use Tasco scopes. That needed to be clarified.
Secondly, if your choices for scope are only Millett and Leatherwood, then go with Leatherwood. The recoil generated by the 7.62x54R in that 91/30 will destroy a cheap scope like the Millett. In all seriousness, if you're going to really put a red dot on that rifle, you should save your money and buy a Burris for it.

You could always go with an EoTech or Trijicon dot ;-)
There is a dot in the $200 range called the Vortex SPARC. It's getting some awesome reviews from AR users, some people are even comparing it to the ~$600-1000 Aimpoints. It may work well for you as well.

I Dont like red dot scopes on high power rifles, unless your useing it for target practice, another thing is that cheap red dot scopes could possibly be knocked off from high power rifles

This all comes down to personal preference and trial and error.
For example, Leupold is considered to be the top of the line rifle scopes, but when my Leupolds failed me when I needed them most, I'll take a Tasco any day of the week over a Leupold.
Besides, if Tasco is good enough for the US military, it's good enough for me.
