Back yard in ground pond pump issues.?

I have a 150 gallon pond in my back yard running off of a 1/4 horsepower pump. On all occasions, whenever I plug it in and run it, it always turns off and then restarts. Is it that the water temperature gets too warm and shuts off the pump? But the temperature isn't that hot right now.

It also isn't due to anything getting clogged. It is a clean pond with little to no algae.

If anyone knows what the issue could be, let me know.

thanks!

Have you checked for loose electrical connections? You didn't mention if there is a controller operating this motor, perhaps a timer? Hmm...

I assume this is a submersible pump?

Place the pump on something (rocks, stepping stones, bricks, etc.) where only the edges are touching, this will ensure no debris will be sucked into the pump. Most newer pumps have an automatic reset switch when debris is a problem. Shutting off allows the pump to drain and once drained, it restarts.

Your pump may have a faulty reset!

The water temp is unlikely to have any affect unless it is at a boiling temp or evaporation temp.

Your pump is about to burn out. It has an automatic shut off in it that turns it off when it gets too hot. Pretty soon it will turn itself off and never restart again. Time to start pump shopping. Sorry.
