Christians, can we agree on this?

That the Westboro Baptist Church are horrible people. I am an atheist but I can recognize the difference between respectful and happy christians with the complete opposite. I cannot stand the WBC and I was wondering what you guys think of them.

Update:

I'm not implying in any way that all baptists are evil or anything or even that christians are evil. Just that this specific group of people are not good people. Yes they protest funerals and disrespect people and take christianity to an extreme. Honestly I don't know many specific baptists so I can't assume they are all like the WBC, glad we can agree on this though.

Update 2:

@good paper, yes I am a straight woman.

I can't find the word, in either dictionaries or any thesaurus, to describe my feelings towards the WBC. I've tried to relate my feelings with a word, but it's impossible. It's the opposite of love, but it's greater than hate.

If you disagree with homosexuality, that's your thing, and luckily your (presumably) straight, so there should be no issue. Westboro is a disgrace to christianity, human rights, and the entire human (F*CKING) race.

EDIT: Sorry, I was referring to people who disagree with homosexuality, who are straight. Which I guess could include you, but you don't appear to be against it. Anywho, good question.

Source(s): I've never been more astounded by a group. "can we agree on this?". Yes, we most certainly can.

I'm a LDS-Christian. I agree with you. The Westboro Baptist Church is a very disrespectful church. I'm reluctant to call it a Christian church. On 9/11 they even took an AMERICAN flag, put it inside a Koran, and burned both. They're not only an insult to Christianity but to America as well. No real citizen would do that. Apparently they're the kind that goes around and protests at funerals.

To all those who mention the Koran Burnings… that was Terry Jones, not Fred Phelps. Wrong Church. Wrong nutcase.

As to Westboro Baptist Church, lets have a round of applause for this thread, for it recognises that Westboro Baptist Church doesn’t reflect al Christendom, any moreso than some of the more ridiculous Atheist groups represent Atheism.

I think that they are simply using Christianity as a vehicle to express their own hatreds, which stem form a need to seek attention for themselves to validate their existence. The Church is mainly composed of Phelps’s family, and is not that large.

I think the only "Christians" who don't think that about the WBC people are the WBC people themselves. I thought it was kind of funny when they burned the Korans though. Not funny when they picket funerals, even though I agree that the war is stupid and pointless.

I have attended Baptist churches before and found the people very unkind and mean even hateful. I just don't like to be around most Baptist.

FYI, if you take Christianity to the extreme, you would look more like Jesus.

    Not like the WBC.

I don't know them personally but there are many very nasty christians. As Ghandi supposedly said 'I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are very unlike your Christ'.

EDIT: Oh okay, so it's those crazies who picket funerals. Yeah they're evil as all Hell. It's interesting that the most vicious, religion-protecting christians are the ones who are convinced that they are the most holy. It's the same in all the churches.

They just seem like very mean and nasty people. I wouldn't want to be in the same room with them for any amount of time. They don't seem very Christ like. At least I don't ever recall hearing about Jesus picketing at a funeral saying thank God that someone's loved one is dead and that they're burning in hell.

Churchgoing agnostic. Horrible is a good word for them, at least I can use that word on a family forum. I don't believe in a "hell". but if there is one, I hope they get the hottest spot.

    Blessings on your Journey!

Yep, I'm good with it. Only difference is that we pray that they come to their senses.

(These are the people who protest military funerals and basically insult everybody but themselves)
