When can you start kittens on food?

I have 3 kittens left by their mother. She was killed by a dog. (we get a lot of drop offs out here) They are about 3-4 weeks old. When can I start them on food and milk in a bowl. Also how do I liter train them.

Update:

I have been feeding them replacement milk for 2 weeks. They each have about 1 ounce 3 times a day. Maby more they are so chubby.

If they don't have there mother please, Please take them to the vet if you want them to live. The vet will give you special kitten milk To give them and they will give you a daily routine. You can start giving them milk and food out of a bowl when there about 6 weeks old because thats when there mum would leave them to live on there own :) But most kittens wont like milk when they get to about 1 year old but it really depends on the cat :)

Open a can of cat food now and see how they take to it. Never give them cows milk. They like it but can't digest it properly. Instead give them a little goats milk.

If they seem to take to the cat food now, offer them some 2 or 3 times a day. It won't be long before you can mix in a little dry cat food and start switching them over.

Consider drizzling a little cod liver oil on the food. They probably need the extra vitamin boost.

As far as litter box training, every once in a while during the day, just put them in the box, maybe pet them a little to get them to stay and nature should take it course.

Try a clumping litter as it's easier for kittens to dig in.

Keep giving them the replacement milk for a couple of more weeks, then switch to moisten kitten food in a bowl. Moistening with water is best, as milk that we drink can cause stomach upset in kittens and cats. To train them all you need to do is place them in the liter box and scrape their little paws into the granules. I have had many, many kittens and find I only need to do this a couple of times and they will use the box no problem. You need to remember to keep it clean, though. They prefer cleanliness.

Keep the replacement milk feeding up, and but some high quality (Royal Canin is the best) kitten food, both wet and dry. they do an amazing kitten weaning mousse too. Never give kittens or cats cows milk, its very very bad for them. gives them diorrhea and intestinal problems. put small amounts of the food down for them, they learn very quick what it is!

That's pretty young. You can try mushing up Kitten Chow in milk. They may still need bottle feeding.

This is a pretty good reference. http://www.homeatlastrescue.org/html/aboutcats/kit...

They litter train themselves. Just keep a clean litter box handy and put them there if they look like they're about to go.

You need to feed them straight away! especially if their mother is not there to give them food. They, like humans, will die with out food! You don't have to put it in a bowl but it is usually easier to clean up than if you just put it right on the floor.
