Global class-action lawsuit against Japan?

..... I doubt it's possible to sue Japan, although I wish it were. Like you, many of us are sick and tired of getting the shaft and those who are destroying our economy and our earth never are held responsible. If you're rich and powerful in this world, you will never be brought to justice. But let the little guy do the slightest wrong and he's tossed in jail to rot.

It doesn't even cause damage to people in Tokyo or any further away then the 8 km no-entry zone. If you want to sue someone, sue the media for their unfounded scare stories that they present as factual.

If anything, the situation shows how safe nuclear power is. Consider that forty year old plants were hit with an earthquake five times the strength they were designed for and yet they still shut down safely. The generators came on like they were supposed to when grid power was cut. Then the tsunami hit and the generators were wiped out. However, the battery backup still worked for the designed eight hours. The problem happened when no new generators could be put in. Even so the problems have been minimal--media scare mongering for ratings not withstanding.

The people of Japan are still suffering. Many are still homeless.

Now you want to increase their suffering by taking away the Government of Japan's resources to fix things.

Also, can you really point to any long term global damage? No you cannot. Unless you live within 10 miles of Fukushima, there is no real damage from radiation from the plant.

Um.. I think the Japanese have enough problems. And pray tell, what regulations will keep a nuclear reactor safe from an earthquake?

Japan is teetering on the edge of insolvency now and has been for 20 years. Even if you could find a court to take the case, and then win it, you couldn't collect.

The plant was built to withstand a magnitude 7 quake. It isn't the Japanese's fault if an magnitude 8.9(I think I'm right in saying) quake happened.

My thoughts are we actually need to teach their fishing boats respect and common courtesy for other commercial fishers in international waters.

I don't suppose that while rehearsing this Boy Who Cried Wolf bit you paused to remember that there is such a thing as "Sovereign Immunity"?
