Adml.Stanhope gives his opinion about the war against Qaddafi and Cameron tells him off,why ?

It's reported today that Cameron has given a 'dressing down' to the admiral over his publishing his opinion on the sustainability of the attacks on Qaddafi.Having cut all three of our services our forces now Cameron has the cheek to criticise someone who has made an assessment based on years of experience and who has forgotten more about warfare than he (Cameron) will ever know. In addition there was no coffee and biscuits served at the meeting (its enough to make the cat laugh) as a mark of Cameron's displeasure I suppose like all politicians Cameron doesn't want to hear the truth.

Update:

David H your quite right service people especially in the Navy the 'Silent Service' are expected to toe the Government line no matter what they think.Still speaking out obviously wound Cameron up and highlighted his policies of cuts to the Services so that is no bad thing.

Update 2:

Yes trish 'numpties' is a good description for these people and just about sums the whole lot of them up.

True no politician likes the truth. No politician can stand criticism either, especially when it shows up the inexperience of them. Its frightening to think that our unworldly leader has so much power and the arrogance to think he knows better than everyone else in all matters.

This lot of numpties are not much better than the last lot!

All senior serving personal are 'expected' to tow the government policy line publicly - privately they can think whatever they like.

We can't have people fighting and dying - and then its quoted 'its unsustainable implying its a waste of time' by senior leaders - its not good for the moral of the junior service peoples who are 'actually' doing that fighting and dying.

Admiral Stanhope knew he was in big trouble with DC - when - during that reprimand meeting the coffee and biscuits 'never' arrived.....as you said.

Although DC has never been in the position of fighting and dying - he was right for the above reasons on this issue. If I were a serving person in those regions the last thing I'd would want to hear is .........'the UK no longer has the resources too continue' - or that the action I'm ivolved in could be a waste of time - no matter 'how true' that maybe.

Expect to hear the admiral gets a position in the House of Lords very soon now - as compensation .........................for his 'removal'.!!

when you accept the queens shilling or sign up to be a member of the armed forces , you take a pledge that you will protect and serve both your queen and elected parliament of the time .

-------- unfortunately should you deem to criticise the government publicly then you are seen to be breaking that pledge , sad really because it means that you can't tell the government that they have their heads right up their @r$es when it come to A running the country and B managing to look after our serving forces

------------ in other words you just have no way of defending yourself its either the sniper in front or the government sniper behind that win in the end

Source(s): ex forces outraged at this governments total innaptitude where the safety of the realm is concerned
