My 15 month old is a picky eater. I know it's normal at this age. How do I encourage him to try new foods?

My 15 month old son has a pretty limited list of things he will eat. Fortunately, fruit is on his list, so I know he's getting some nutrition. He also likes bread (I have only given him whole wheat bread), cheese, crackers, eggs, chicken, peanut butter (no allergies in my family, so I felt ok giving it to him) and dry cereals. He absolutely refuses to eat pasta of any kind (I know that's a good thing). He will sparingly eat veggies and meat. I give him veggies and small pieces of meat at his meals, but he only takes a bite or two of them and then he refuses to eat any more. Any way I can "disguise" them to help my son try them? I give him vitamins with iron, but I can't help feeling he's not getting a diverse enough diet.

i would say dont try to disguise vegetables they are good to eat and if he gets offered them regularly he will eat them as u say he takes a few bits that's doing good!! some adults wont do that! also if hes getting lots of sweet white starchy food he probably wont be bothered about some broccoli he knows he can wait and something white and sweet will show up. he sounds like he eats quite a few things already but its funny the things they will and wont eat my kids used to love lemons they made an awful face but they couldn't stop eating it!!!! he will be still getting a lot from his milk at this stage so i dont' think u have to worry about malnutrition just keep offering things especially for treats. pretend ur giving him an ices cream when u give him something and only give a little peice. things like carrot sweet potato are good and crunchy things he might like cos of his teeth. i also used to make ice pops like fruit pastille ice lollies with juiced fruit and veg...spinache and apple or kiwi for green beetroot and rraspberry and carrot and orange for yellow and they thought they were getting a real treat hahahah! of course the neighbours kids nwouldn' t eat them cos they had tasted the "real" thing. so hold off on the ice cream and custard.unfortunately babyfood is packed with sugar so babies already have ahigh expectation of what food should taste like and its way harder to introduce veg after they know what sugar is all about. if he doedoesn'tt have sugar for a few days a carrot will taste much sweeter to him .also im Just a mom but my kids are pretty good eaters i did get a lot of flack from other moms about not treating my kids now and then but im glad i did it they are now easy to please. anyway im not an expert just a mom who'sd similar experience. also just thinking back my kids liked only one food at a time and usually raw or lightly steamed as opposed to a mashed veg stew say...they were suspicious of mixtures. if he eats bread though you could try making bread with something in it like finely chopped spinach or potatoe mashed into the dough. but only one thing at a time. also my kids dont eat tomatoe aubergine or much potatoe and i dont force it because they are deadly nightshade family so maybe my kids pick up on this, theyre supposed to be bad for arthritis which runs in my family and i used to hate them too and peppers. yuck. i eat them now thoguh i shouldnt so i think my kids are just intuitive about what they need. hope that is of help to you and good luck!
